The City of Curitiba last weekend saw a double victory
for the Lamborghini Gallardo driven by Paulo “Boni”
Bonifácio and Alceu Feldmann in the second round of the
inaugural Brazilian FIA GT3 Championship. It was a
perfect weekend for Lamborghini team, after claiming
both pole positions they won the third and the fourth
rounds of this new series, winning their dispute against
the Ferrari F430 and Dodge Viper. The pilots Boni and
Feldmann are still the leaders of the championship, and
are now nine points ahead of the Dodge Viper Team of the
pilots Andreas Mattheis and “Xandy” Negrão.
The contest began on a sunny Sunday morning, and the
third stage of Brasil FIA GT3 Championship started with
great doses of emotion. On the second lap the Ferrari
F430 with Renato Cattalini behind the wheel stopped when
it started burning, the fire extinguisher of the car was
not able to stop the fire and the safety car had to get
out on the track.
At
the restart the Lamborghini of Boni immediately started
to open up an advantage over the Dodge Viper of the
Medley Team steered by Andreas Mattheis. In the
intermediate positions the dispute was ferocious between
Lico Kaesemodel in his Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and the
yellow Ferrari F430 Rafael Derani, while at their back
the quarrel between Amílcar Collares and Abramo Mazzochi
in their Vipers was ended by an audacious overtaking
maneuver by Mazzochi during the ninth lap.
Meanwhile Boni and his Lamborghini Gallardo kept
registering the fastest laps and increasing his
advantage over Mattheis up to 3.9 seconds after twelve
laps. The teams started to pit stop to change the pilots
and Derani was the first to give his Ferrari to Cláudio
Ricci while after him Collares passed the black Viper to
Fábio Casagrande. Boni stopped after sixteen laps and
Alceu Feldmann took on the Gallardo while on the
twentieth lap Andreas Mattheis was replaced by the
experienced ex-stock car pilot Xandy Negrão in the Dodge
Viper. Lico Kaesemodel was the last one to do the
obligatory change being replaced by Antonio Hermann at
the cockpit of Porsche 997 GT3.
Then a
flat tyre on Feldmann’s Lamborghini took him into the
pits and as a result he came to the track in the fifth
position. Meanwhile Xandy Negrão in his Viper overtook
Hermann’s Porsche and he seem to be on course to be the
winner of the race but suddenly a collision of Marcelo
Fernandes’s F430 and Casagrande’s Viper change all the
situation. With the entrance of the safety car and the
regrouping of the cars, at the restart, and with just
nine minutes to the end, it was the opportunity for
Feldmann that overtake every car ahead of him including
the leader Xandy Negrão and winning - in the most
spectacular fashion - the race.
In the fourth round of the series, and the second of the
day, which was disputed in the afternoon, the orange
Lamborghini of Feldmann and Boni was again on the pole
position and the second on the track was the F430 of
Cláudio Ricci. The race had no incidents, unlike the
opener, but the dispute was again very tough especially
to beat the three Vipers. On the seventeenth lap the
teams started to change the pilots.
