02.06.2007 N.TECHNOLOGY ALFA ROMEO LOOKING FOR MORE SUCCESS IN THIS AFTERNOON'S QUALIFYING SESSION IN PAU

Following its stunning double victory in Valencia a fortnight ago, N.Technology Alfa Romeo is set for the qualifying session in Pau, France this afternoon ahead of round seven and eight of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) which take place tomorrow.

The first of three street circuits on the 2007 WTCC Calendar, Pau is a new addition for this season and the 2.760km town-based track is already poised as one of the hardest venues the championship will be visiting. Valencia winner James Thompson will hit the track this morning in the first of two official practice sessions with 30kg ballast as a result of his double win and although his Alfa Romeo 156 won’t be the heaviest car, the 'success' ballast is still a key factor to contend with.

“Spain was amazing,” said the 33-year-old. “The changes we made to the car worked perfectly, the track suited the package we have and I knew the circuit very well. Pau is a completely different challenge. We have never raced there before, I will need to learn the track and find a good set-up with the team before knowing whether or not we can be at the front again. Obviously, the aim is to keep winning, we are still developing the car and the results in Valencia show the team is doing a great job, so I definitely think that we can hope for more good results.”

The N.Technology Alfa Romeo team celebrate James Thompson's win in Valencia a fortnight out: the Italian outfit has huge experience running the Alfa 156.

James Thompson celebrates his double win in Valencia last time out: the 33-year-old Briton will go into this afternoon's qualifying session in Pau looking to repeat his Spanish success.

Thompson’s team-mate, Dutch youngster Olivier Tielemans, finished in eleventh place at Valencia, his best performance in the series to-date, and he is looking forward to France’s two rounds. “I was so happy for the team last weekend,” said the 22-year-old driver from Holland. “They are working really hard at every opportunity and deserved this 100 percent. My races were ok, the second round was quite rough though. I fought with other cars a lot but it was completely worth it since I finished 11th. I hope to keep climbing throughout the season. I have improved at each race weekend so far and there is no reason for that to stop so I’m looking forward to an even higher finish at Pau for me.”

The live WTCC coverage for Pau this weekend begins today (Saturday) with qualifying on Eurosport 2 at 15:00 (local time) followed by Sunday’s race one at 10:00 (local time) on Eurosport 2 and race two at 15:30 (local time) on Eurosport.
