Owning an
Alfa Romeo has often become a family affair, expanding
from personal love for the car to the extended family of
other owners and enthusiasts. As a focus on fostering
this family togetherness, AROC Singapore and AROC
Malaysia recently organized a Family Weekend trip to the
coastal town of Lumut, situated in the Malaysian state
of Perak.
A highlight of
the event was the extension of the family, with the
participation of several members of the Singapore Fiat
community. With the marque only reintroduced in Singapore
just over two years ago, the owners' form a very young but
still very passionate community.
The route
towards Lumut included Malaysia’s North South Highway and
the B-roads of Perak, which not only offered scenic views
but also allowed the drivers to indulge in and appreciate
their cars abilities. The weekend’s programme included
telematch games for the children and adults, opportunities
to sample local fare and explore the town.
As with all
drive trips, owners and drivers taking part had the chance
to swap stories and share their love for their cars. Both
marques were well represented, with a count of thirty four
cars attending. From Alfa Romeo were representatives of the
146, 147, 155, 156, 156GTA, 159, 159 Sportswagon, 164, 166,
GT and Brera model ranges; while for the Fiat brand there
were the Punto, Grande Punto and Punto HGT as well as the
limited edition Stilo Michael Schumacher.
With the success
of the Family Weekend 2008 event, it is set to become a new
tradition in the clubs’ calendar of activities.
