On Friday
morning at nine AM at the Fiorano regularity circuit a
unique race got underway; organied by Ferrari to
celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 365 GTB4,
nicknamed the "Daytona" due to the legendary triple win
of the Prancing Horse at the 24 Hours of Daytona in
1967.
The Daytona,
fitted with a V12 cylinder 60° with 4390 cm³, thanks to his
performance was nominated "the most desired sports car in
the world". Around 20 "Daytonas", from three continents -
Europe, USA and Africa - are participating in the regularity
race, which leads the crews over the 300 kilometres of the "Circuito
delle tre province", where Enzo Ferrari took part in his
last race as a driver.
The highlight of the event will be today (Sunday 6th April),
a parade of the participants and their cars in the splendid
setting of the Mugello Historic Festival. The Mugello
Historic Festival (4th-6th April) is being held for the
second time this year and is an event organised by Ferrari Corse Clienti for historical cars at the Mugello Circuit,
with the participation of the most important historical
racing series in Europe. On the occasion of the Historic
Festival the first round of the Shell Ferrari Historic
Challenge Europe 2008 is held.
Designed in 70's
and later greatly remodelled by Ferrari, Mugello is one of
the most scenic, modern and safe racing facilities in the
world. Fully operational year round, the Mugello circuit is
the regular test centre of the Ferrari F1 team, as well as
hosting the most important manufacturers involved in MotoGP
and World Superbike, and other prestigious manufacturer cars
of cars Italian and international.
To date the
Mugello race track has hosted the Formula 5000 Championship
(which baptised the renovated circuit in June 23rd, 1974),
Formula 3000, Formula 2, the FIA GT and has been the only
circuit in Italy to host the ITC. The track runs over 5,000
m through forests and green areas. The elevated areas along
the track permit the spectators to take part fully in the
race: to experience strong emotions ad protagonists. The
facilities have been built with leading technology and the
office building is fully equipped with multifunctional
facilities.
