The Ferrari
430 Scuderia has been nominated as the winner of the
best 2 Seat Sports Car 2008. The award for the
car manufacturer from Maranello comes from the US
magazine Fortune, in its Top 10 Luxury Rides,
confirming that, despite the crisis in the luxury
business, "Made in Italy" is still a synonym for
excellence in the US.
The Ferrari 430
Scuderia made its debut in North America at the
International Car Show at Los Angeles in November 2007,
shortly after its world première at the Frankfurt IAA. The
2-seater Berlinetta with extreme performance and content
derived from experience gained by Scuderia Ferrari in
Formula 1, stands beside the F430 and the F430 Spider, to
complete the Ferrari 8-cylinder range.
"If you can
stomach the price, this is a scary-fast, insanely competent
(0 to 60 in 3.5 sec), sexy purebred that makes operatic
engine sounds unlike any other," wrote Sue Zesiger Callaway
in the Fortune summary of the 430 Scuderia. "Oh yes,
and former Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher was crucial
to its development. Purists can argue about the superiority
of a mid-engine V-8 Ferrari like the F430 vs. the big
front-engine V-12 599 GTB, but my money goes to the
playfulness of the mid-engine car. For those who prefer
German, the 911 in any guise is unimpeachable, while Audi's
R8 is the hottest new entrant. The Corvette, starting at
$46,1000, is still the best deal around."
While the 430
Scuderia ran out the winner in the 2 Seat Sports Car
category of Fortunes' Top 10 Luxury Rides, second
place went to the Porsche 911 Turbo and in third was the
Chevrolet Corvette. The other category winners were the
Nissan GT-R (2+2/GT), BMW M3 (Small Coupé), Bentley
Brooklands (Large Coupé), Audi RS4 (Small Sedan), Jaguar XF
Supercharged (Mid Sized Sedan), Mercedes-Benz S550 (Large
Sedan), Lexus RX400 h AWD (Wagon/Crossover), Porsche Cayenne
GTS (Mid Size SUV) and Lexus LX 570 (Large SUV).
