Ferrari is
not only beating Porsche on the race track – Ferrari
beat Porsche in the classic Spa 24 race at the weekend
(2-3 August 2008) and the F430 dominates the FIA GT2
World Championship – but the Italian legend is also
beating the Germans in Australian car showrooms, with
Ferrari out selling the Porsche 911 in July, according
to figures revealed yesterdya (5 August 2008) by VFACTS.
The Australian
market performance of Ferrari is further highlighted by the
fact that while the market sector in which Ferrari competes
sales dropped by 39 per cent in July, Ferrari sales climbed
by 37 per cent, showing a clear preference for Ferrari
sports cars.
“The Porsche 911
is the traditional sales benchmark in this category,
something it achieves with a wide range of models and
versions covering a broad spectrum of the market,” says
Kevin Wall, General Manager of the Australian Ferrari
importer, European Automotive Imports. “For Ferrari, with
its narrower range of models and versions, positioned at the
top end of price spectrum, to overhaul the 911 is a
significant achievement and to do this in a market sector
that has seen a sharp down turn in sales further highlights
the strength of Ferrari sales in Australia. It also explains
why Australian demand continues to run ahead of Ferrari’s
ability to supply.”
The July VFACTS
figures show that between them, Ferrari and Maserati took
more than 35 per cent share of the top market sector,
showing that Australian car buyers are being increasingly
enamoured with the style, exclusivity and performance of the
leading Italian car marques.
