A Panda
fuelled by natural gas equipped specifically by Fiat
Automobiles for Telecom, has been delivered to the
representatives of the Telecommunications Company in the
Fiat Centre in Rome, the event was attended by Mr. Dario
Esposito, Rome City Councillor for the Environment.
The vehicle, a Fiat Panda Panda Van, is painted in
“Telecom red” livery, complete with the Company's logo
on the sides, and is equipped with a ladder and ladder
carrier roof rack, while the interior storage areas
contain all the equipment necessary for emergency and
maintenance services.
This unique vehicle will be tested by Telecom and with
the prospect of renewing its vehicle fleet, can open up
the possibility of using ecological vehicles with
positive impacts for the environment.
The vehicle is equipped with a 1.2 litre engine
providing 52 BHP, has a dual natural gas-petrol fuel
supply and is able to cut CO2 emissions by approximately
23% and reduce particulate emissions virtually to zero.
The vehicle has a double fuel tank, ensuring a range of
310 kilometres (extra-urban driving cycle) when only
fuelled by natural gas and a total range that exceeds
700 kilometres when also using petrol.
Fiat Panda Panda has set itself the target of being a
reference point in the scenario of vehicles already on
the market designed to achieve sustainable urban
mobility. Almost 35 thousand vehicles have been
registered from the beginning of the marketing phase, in
January 2007: therefore, no less than one Panda in five
of the total vehicles sold is equipped with this dual
fuel supply solution, reflecting a trend that is growing
constantly.
Fiat is confident that at present natural gas fuelled
engines are the most appropriate technological solution
available to overcome the pollution problems in urban
areas. This is because using natural gas has a positive
impact both in terms of environmental benefits and from
the economic aspect. Fiat Group Automobiles is the
leader in this technology and is the first car
manufacturer to offer a broad range of vehicles with a
natural gas-petrol dual fuel supply in the "Natural
Power" ecological line, able to meet the mobility needs
of a vast category of users, including the professional
trade, handcraft and cargo transport sector: from the
Doblò to the Punto, from the Multipla to the Panda.
