With more than half the cars sold in the UK now diesel-powered, it is an ideal market in which to assess the best diesel-engined cars as there is a full range of rivals in each class to contest the title. Therefore, for the Fiat 500 to be picked as the best small diesel, it can truly be said to beaten all its rivals.

Meanwhile What Diesel? magazine has just gone through a bit of a change, with a new name late last year, and now a new editor. The name changed is to reinforce the fact that the publication is the UK's leading authority for diesel and alternative fuel vehicles, providing the UK's car buyers with the definite guide to buying a diesel car, both brand new and used.
