German high
performance tuner, Hamann Motorsport, more known for its
extravagant work on brands such as Ferrari, Porsche,
BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lamborghini, has recently turned
its attention to the little Fiat 500 and developed a
wide ranging improvement package that tackles upgrades
right across the car.
At the
moment new power increases are limited to the 1.3
Multijet 16v turbodiesel engine, which comes with 75 bhp
(55 kW) as factory standard. Hamann Motorsport has
reprogrammed the car's ECU to give it involved power
output of up to 90 bhp (66 kW) at 4,000 rpm, while
maximum torque now comes in at 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm.
However the
rest of the new performance upgrades offered by the
tuner include the 1.2- and 1.4-litre engined versions,
as well as the 1.3-litre Multijet. The Fiat 500's
suspension has been uprated by Hamann Motorsport with
the availability of progressive sport springs, lowered
20 mm at the front and 30 mm at the rear.
The braking
system has been improved to cope with the extra power
and improved dynamics, with three different diameter
brake discs, perforated and vented, at the front (240,
257 and 280 x 28 mm) and the rear, bold new 4-pot
calipers in red (other colours available for extra
charges), new special compound brake pads, Stahlflex
brake linings, as well as adapters and other
installation components.
Externally
the Hamann Motorsport-tuned Fiat 500 can be quickly
recognised by the new 17-inch one-piece light alloy
wheels of a multi-spoke-design that have the spider
section painted matt black while the outer rim has a
diamond polished outer lip. The 7.0Jx17 wheels come with
two tyre options: 195/40ZR17 or 215/35ZR17. 15mm alloy
wheel spacers are optional.
For the 1.4
16v petrol version of the Fiat 500 Hamann Motorsport
also offer a new design twin tailpipe sport rear muffler
with two 70mm diameter round stainless-steel tailpipes
for their domestic market, while a full exhaust system
including catalytic converter is available for export.
Bespoke accessories for the Fiat 500 include aluminium
pedals, floor mats and external decal stripes.
