Last Sunday
nearly fifty Fiat 500 owners' gathered at the Buga Ital
Auto dealership at Wijnegem in Belgium for a special and
unique rally quest, the Buga 500 Miglia. The
event was held in collaboration with Mare Tours Thomas
Cook and all the participants had to search the area in
order to find several pictured waypoints and answer the
questions listed in their special roadbook .
The first of the
Fiat 500s left the dealership at Wijnegem at 9.00 AM and the
route took the participants through idyllic scenery, passing
several places to stop to eat and gather, before they all
arrived between 15.00 and 16.30 PM at Buga Westerlo, which
was the 'secret' finishing destination revealed by the
clues, and passed through a large finishing arch made up of
red, white and green balloons. The warm and sunny Belgian
countryside that day seemed full of 500s of all colours and
finish schemes, and the Car of the Year 2008 award
winner attracted just as much attention from passers by in
the area as it ever does.
Three crews
answered their questionnaire faultlessly and a winner had to
be chosen through a tie break; with the victory being
selected for at trip to Rome offered by Mare Tours Thomas
Cook. The second placed participants recieved an exclusive
Fiat 500 CarMouse along with several bottles of Fiat-branded
wines, while the third placed crew also received wine. All
the participants enjoyed Italian food and beverages supplied
by Buga Ital Auto, both at the departure and the finish
line.
The inaugural
Buga 500 Miglia event was deemed a big success with
everyone thoroughly enjoying the day and the plan is to hold
the event again next year when the 'rally quest' will once
again be reserved for the little Fiat 500, although this
time the entry will be bolstered by the powerful Abarth
versions. However the arrival point will be in a different
place as Buga Westerlo will no longer be a secret
destination.
