While the
new Gallardo LP560-4 is breaking cover in front of the
world's media today in Geneva, Lamborghini has put the
finishing touches a Model Year (MY) 2009 upgrade to the
Murciélago LP640 Coupé and Roadster. The LP640 MY 2009
version is set to arrive in the showrooms at the very
end of August, refining further the model's sporty and
luxury credentials. Dealer ordering is now open.
The biggest
change to the Murciélago LP640 MY will come with the Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCM) which
will be a standard feature. In providing this as standard
equipment Lamborghini is following a trail recently blazed
by Ferrari which now offers the technology across the range
as standard fit.
"This technology
guarantees maximum efficiency and effective in every
condition, constant pedal response and avoids dangerous
effects of fading during an intensive usage," say
Lamborghini. "For this reason the Carbon Ceramic Brakes
System can be considered as the best solution for both
everyday and track." The Murciélago LP640 with CCM brakes
has 6-piston front and rear callipers and 380 mm x 38 mm
brake discs.
A second area
tackled to improve performance is the addition of a new
'Corsa' mode, available in combination with e.gear; it
replaces the current 'Sport' mode. The new 'Corsa' mode when
activated guarantees, faster gear shifting timing, faster
engine response, and says Lamborghini 'an uncompromising and
aggressive driving and performance feeling.'
Inside the
cockpit a new screen in the centre of the instrument cluster
will announce the engine power 'in use' shown as a
percentage of CV; while the window lifter switches will get
a new design. A new Kenwood entertainment system will
incorporate a 7-inch Touch Screen Monitor( TFT) and feature
DVD (DVD/DIVX/mpeg/jpeg/mp3/wma/aac), CD-R/RW playback, CD
text; built-in Dolby Digital and dts 5.1 decoders and a new
navigation system available as an option (built-in advanced
3d-maps navigation system and on internal flash memory 40GB
hard disc). It will also have I-POD preparation and USB
interface, available at the same time, and with both
connectors placed in the central glove box, and finally
Bluetooth.
The underside of
the bonnet will be optionally finished in visible carbon
fibre while the LP640 Roadster will be available with the
optional transparent engine cover (with a matt black
finished rear section), an item already on the
Coupe options list.
At the rear a small camera will be mounted in the
centre of the panel just underneath the badge, its picture
playing on the dashboard-mounted 7-inch TFT monitor. Three
new matt colours join the 'Ad Personam' options range: Nero
Nemesis (Matt Black), Bianco Canopus (Matt Pearl White) and
Marrone Apus (Matt Brown).
