Reiter
Engineering has turned its long experience with
developing and building customer Lamborghini racers
toward the road cars, and has unveiled a comprehensive
performance and body styling upgrade kit 'Reiter R-GT'
for the Murciélago.
The German
concern, run by engineer Hans Reiter, has made its name
during the last five half decade developing customer
Lamborghini racing cars, starting with the FIA GT1 class
Murciélago R-GT in 2004, and continuing with a version
of the Gallardo developed for the FIA GT3 class. This
latter racer has seen much success on racing circuits
worldwide, most recently last weekend driver Mark Eddy
wrapped up the 2008 Australian GT Championship title at
the wheel of a Reiter Engineering-built Gallardo GT3.
Reiter
Engineering has previously developed a road tuning
upgrade package for the V10-engined Gallardo, and now its engineers
have turned their attention to Lamborghini's muscular
range-topping supercar, the 6.2-lite V12 engined Murciélago.
This car is being presented in public for the first time
at the tuning show in Essen.
Little
details have been given away about the firm's new
performance upgrades, dubbed the 'R-GT' after the well
known GT1 class racer, although hints as to its potent
capabilities are revealed by the new twin high level
rear exhaust exits which allow the exhaust gases to be
removed from the V12 with much less bending of the
pipes, while new air intakes have been sliced into the
front wings above the headlights.
New grooved brake
discs and alloy bells improve the Reiter R-GT's stopping
capability, while the suspension has also been uprated
and fitted with new Ohlins springs. Purposeful
gloss-black OZ Racing wheels and low-profile tyres complete the dynamic
upgrade.
Visually the
Reiter R-GT road car features a number of new
carbon-fibre aerodynamic appendages: a split tray at the
front, a huge racing-style rear wing, cut-outs in the
front wings, and a new rear lower spoiler that masks the
Murciélago's usual lower rear exhaust exit aperture. All are
finished in polished carbon-fibre. Small 'R-GT' decals
are emblazoned on the rear wings in front of the wheels.
Inside, the car is fitted with racing 'bucket' seats
which are embossed with the company's logo as are the
dedicated floor mats.
