ALFA ROMEO ITALDESIGN SCHIGHERA

The second part of Trilogy of the Automobile is underway in Turin, an exhibition that has a unique perspective on one of the most crucial and significant aspects in the history of design: the design, engineering, and manufacture of the automobile.

Due to the remodeling of its original building in Corso Unità d’Italia, the Italian National Automobile Museum “Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia” has moved to the historical Torino Esposizioni, and begun its time there with a spectacular exhibition called: Trilogy of the Automobile - a cultural event dedicated to the history and evolution of the automobile, in the form of three separate exhibitions entitled, “The 20th Century”, “Speed”, and “Dream”, which started in November 2007 and run until December 2008.

Trilogy of the Automobile is an extraordinary event which enriches the city, coming poignantly in the year that it celebrates Torino 2008 World Design Capital, with a unique perspective on one of the most crucial and significant aspects in the history of design: the design, engineering, and manufacture of the automobile.

The temporary closure of the National Automobile Museum for remodeling makes the museum’s entire collection available, and it is one of the world’s most prestigious car collections. The most significant cars, selected from over 170 in the collection, with the addition of some incredible cars that have never been seen before, kindly loaned by private collectors and industrial manufacturers, make up core of the three new exhibition features.

The three exhibitions in the 'Trilogy' series start from three different viewpoints, including firstly the history of the century just concluded; now running, the appeal of speed, and finally to wrap up with the evolution of concept cars, to demonstrate how much the car and its history reveal of our recent past, our present and what we can expect in the future.

This second exhibition entitled “Speed” is now taking centre stage, tracing the history of the continuous search for speed, the unattainable goal. You can admire Grand Prix, F1, track, record and rally cars, of the past and the present, which have been raced on the world’s most renowned racetracks.

Evocative original photos allow visitors to relive great competitions such as Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, Grand Prix races from Italy, Great Britain, France and Germany, and many others. An exciting exhibition aimed not only at car fanatics, but since speed is such a popular theme of our contemporary world, it fascinates and involves everyone, adults and children, specialists and non specialists. Speed is a challenge to our imagination, it is competition, it is progress, but it can also mean life and death, victory and defeat, it is risk, courage, blind stupidity but also intelligent calculation. Because "a race car is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace sculpture”.
