Ready to overcome new challenges and to
respond to all of the needs of the client in the best
and most complete way the new Eurocargo is about to
arrive in the market and will be the great star of the
new Iveco offensive for 2008.
The new Eurocargo collects the inheritance of the original
Eurocargo, launched in 1991 and which won the prestigious
European Truck of the Year award in the following year;
in fact it has won more awards than any other commercial
vehicle in the history of road transport, assuming from the
start the role of medium truck of choice and has
consistently been either in the number one or number two
position of best selling trucks in its product segment.
Since its launch until the end of 2007, over 400,000
Eurocargo vehicles have been built; testament to its
popularity among vehicle buyers.
Now, new Eurocargo, further improving its credentials as the
medium truck to satisfy to the full its customers’
expectations, whether they be large fleet operators or
operators of one or two vehicles, it has become more
competitive and more productive than ever before. Its
versatility, that has always characterised Eurocargo, has
become even stronger due to an even wider range of models
and options so enabling a bespoke specification for diverse
vehicle missions: general distribution, construction and
municipal applications.
Contents
The new EuroCargo is presented with a new look in its form
and its contents. The cabin has been completely renewed,
with a soft non-aggressive appearance, both internally and
externally, maintaining the Iveco family look. The hinged
front hood panel with provision for personalising the
vehicle with company livery and plastic front bumper with
integral head lights are both new. Bumper and wheel arches
are also available in cab colour.
A renewed range of manual gearboxes, besides a new range of
automated and automatic gearboxes, complete the product
offer ensuring high driver productivity. The reduced weight
of the new gearboxes improves the productivity of the
vehicles and precise gear engagement, whether automated or
with manual servoshift ensures high productivity and gearbox
life across the range (5, 6 and 9 speed). The automated
Eurotronic gearboxes, produced by ZF, are equipped with a
software evolution to optimise fuel consumption by making
gear shifting at the correct moment. The Allison automatic
gearboxes, available on models from 7.5t to 12t provide for
an elevated level of driver comfort due to the torque
convertor in combination with the base gearbox. The new
product specifications, both standard and optional, allow
the customer to personalise the vehicle according to their
specific needs.
The excellent Tector range of engines is carried over to new
Eurocargo, an indication of its performance, reliability and
low operating costs, not forgetting its high evolution and
reliability in ecological terms. Tector is offered meeting
the requirements of Euro V tail-pipe emission levels, a
feature that becomes a legal requirement in October 2009,
thanks to the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology
achieving very low emissions and a high engine fuel
efficiency.
Style and Comfort
New also is the cabin interior offering the best of in-cab
appointment and cross cab access. The compact monochrome
instrument panel facilitates ergonomic use of the rich
instrumentation and the functional most frequently used
control switches that, together with the park brake lever
are sited close to the driving position. The increased size
of the steering wheel makes driving efforts even lower. The
new ergonomic seating, with covering in cotton and micro
fibre material, and the increased storage provision
contribute to driver comfort creating an ideal working
environment.
Safety
Improved safety is ensured by the availability of ASR (anti
driving wheel slip control), ESP (electronic stability
control) and Hill Holder (anti roll-back control). A driver
seat belt warning system is incorporated to promote the
wearing of seat belts. A park brake warning system is
introduced to alert the driver if the driver’s door is
opened without first applying the park brake.
Revisions to the braking system include new larger diameter
and thicker brake discs and increased volume brake pads
allowing increased brake performance and reduced servicing
costs.
