Three
leading players in automotive electronics have come
together for the use of a common communication protocol
in the sector of infomobility: Magneti Marelli, an
international group that designs and produces hi-tech
components for motor vehicles, Meta System and Octo
Telematics, companies of the MetaSystem Group
specialized in the supply of telematic systems and
services for the insurance and automotive market, have
signed an agreement based on the unification of their
respective communication protocols and telematic
platforms.
The goal: to promote, through the use of a common
standard, the growth of the market associated with
infotelematic devices for motor vehicles and the
relevant enjoyment of insurance telematic services.
The agreement develops along several lines. First of
all, through the adoption of an enabling communication
protocol that will make it possible to communicate with
the Octo Telematics service centre, Magneti Marelli's
infotelematic platform for motor vehicles will be able
to deliver insurance telematic services offered by Octo
Telematics.
Consequently, the occupants of motor vehicles equipped
with Magneti Marelli's “T-Box” (telematic box) will also
be able to enjoy the insurance services offered by Octo
Telematics, which include telematic solutions for the
new PPU - Pay Per Use, PAYD - Pay As You Drive
automobile insurance policies, personalized according to
the users' actual needs, available thanks to the
agreements signed by the company and 36 insurance
companies, including the top five insurance groups in
Europe. The most popular “crash management” service in
the world can accurately reproduce how the accident
happened and make available to the users prompt rescue
efforts, suited to the severity of the crash.
Designed with a view to save on insurance policies and
for added safety for the consumers, the insurance
services offered by Octo Telematics can also guarantee
insurance companies greater efficiency and the ability
to offer products that increasingly satisfy the
customer's needs. Moreover, the agreement calls for the
companies to develop a communication protocol on
Bluetooth channel so that the Meta System telematic
“Clear Box” can communicate with Magneti Marelli's
portable navigator, in order to also make available Octo
Telematics services on a PND (Portable Navigation
Device).
From a
commercial standpoint, the three companies aim at
extending their cooperation beyond the European context
and precisely to the South American markets, which are
experiencing a rapid growth in terms of satellite
localisation and related insurance services aimed at
drivers. In addition to the delivery of insurance
telematic services offered by Octo Telematics, Magneti
Marelli's telematic “T-Box”, equipped with a built-in
system for localization, security and infomobility
applications, can also provide the currently available
services associated with intelligent mobility management
- such as fleet management, tracking, infologistics, car
pooling and e-call.
"The agreement with Octo Telematics and Meta System
means that we will be joining efforts with two
absolutely excellent players in the sector," stated
Eugenio Razelli, CEO of Magneti Marelli. "The agreement
is part of our development strategy in the area of
infomobility solutions that, through access to the
networks, offer a constant link with information and
entertainment services, as well as with remote
assistance and diagnostics services, aiming at safety,
eco-compatibility and comfort onboard the vehicle, and
that has already taken a first important step with the
founding of the tema.mobility Consortium.
The combination of our technologies and our partners'
technologies will make it possible to offer, for the
first time on the infomobility market, an all-round
service that incorporates intelligent services, capable
of connecting the car to the surrounding environment,
and insurance services."
"This partnership opens up new cooperative scenario also
for the joint development of even more innovative
technological solutions, and presents instant
opportunities, in addition to interesting perspectives
for growth, thanks to Magneti Marelli's acknowledged
leadership in the development of electronic and
telematic systems for the OEM market - commented
Giuseppe Simonazzi, CEO of MetaSystem Group.
Specifically, the agreement will enable Octo Telematics
to further expand the offer and increase the
distribution of insurance telematic services in order to
consolidate its position as a top global player in the
sector."
