The NICE Car
Company will present a new zero-emission city car built
by Innovech International and styled by Giorgetto
Giugiaro which is set to hit the streets of London this
autumn at the British Motor Show tomorrow.
The
Italian-styled car is a two-seater. Small, stylish and good
looking. Urban cool, it comes with all the benefits of
zero-emissions when it goes on sale in London: it is exempt
from the city's congestion charge, isn't liable for road tax
as well as free parking in many locations. Simply the
coolest, cheapest, and most convenient way to get around
town.
MyCar will be
priced from £8,995 and come with a 2-year warranty when it
is sold by the NICE Car Company in the UK. The
plastic-bodied MyCar is just 257cm long, 140cm wide, 150cm
high and with a wheelbase of 169cm, allowing it maximum
flexibility in tight city conditions. Range from its
batteries will be around 40 miles with a top speed of 40
mph. Electric running costs will be around 2p per mile with
a 6-8 hour recharge time.
It is built by
Hong Kong based Innovech International at a new factory in
China. The car weights just 320-350kg due to the extensive
use of lightweight thermoformed plastic panels fitted to an
extruded steel chassis, both of which are also very cost
effective to produce. Like its Smart rival it is innovative
in its use a quickly and easily removable hard top which
allows it to be easily switched by the user to 'convertible'
mode. The car's doors can also be specified with removable
central panels. Chunky front and rear bumpers, bulbous wheel
arch mouldings, and rugged sill protectors, all serve to
give MyCar a visual stature which is well above its tiny
dimensions, as well as serving to ably protect its body in
tight city situations. Attractive alloy wheels complete its
appearance.
Inside, a single
centrally mounted round instrument cluster incorporates a
speedometer and fuel gauge. The seats are steel framed,
seatbelts are fitted, there is a dashboard connector for an
MP3 reader, nets to store small objects incorporated into
the dashboard, while the passenger will have a strong alloy
grab bar mounted directly in front of them across the
dashboard. Standard equipment includes electric windows and
mirrors, Radio/MP3 player, remote central locking, Hi/lo and
boost button and LCD multifunction display. Luggage can be
stored under the bonnet as well as in the boot.
