More details
have emerged of the brand-new Lamborghini Murciélago
LP640 Superveloce model that the Sant'Agata brand may unveil at next month's Paris Motor Show. A
couple of days ago Lamborghini presented a teaser image,
showing large rear exhausts and a carbon-fibre splitter,
which caused a stir of interest, which may refer to the
new Murciélago LP640 Superveloce or not.
The new
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Superveloce (MY10) will
capitalise on the market success of the Murciélago-based
Reventón that was presented a year ago at the Frankfurt
IAA, and was snapped up by buyers before it was even
unveiled. Priced at a million euros its success caused
Lamborghini's top management to consider extending the
production run beyond the 20 units. Now the Murciélago
theme will be taken a step further with another
limited-edition run that will help to extend the life of
the supercar. Introduced in 2001, the first model to
emerge from Bologna following the brand's purchase by
Audi, the ageing Murciélago is soon to be replaced by a
new-generation supercar model.
The new
Murciélago LP640 Superveloce (MY10) will incorporate
much of the Reventón's dramatic F-22 'Raptor' jet
fighter-inspired styling, and will pump out an extra
30-40 bhp as it seeks to position itself in the market
above the 6.5-litre V12-engined LP640. Learning from the
instant demand for the Reventon, Lamborghini have priced
the LP640 Superveloce (MY10) at 382,400 euros (for the
US market), almost double the list price commanded by
the LP640 Coupé. Production of the latest version of the
long-running supercar will be limited to just 100 units, each
individually numbered.
