Since its
arrival in Brazil, Fiat’s trajectory has been marked by
pioneering models, concepts and technology, always respecting the
environment. Fiat Automóveis was the first car manufacturer in the world to launch a
production model that can run with four different kinds
of fuel, and that car, the Fiat Siena Tetrafuel, is on
display to visitors in the halls of the 25th Salão Internacional do Automovel
in São Paulo this week.
The Fiat Siena 1.4 Tetrafuel is able to operate efficiently
when using
ethanol; Brazilian market specification petrol (featuring around 25% of ethanol
mix); pure petrol, and finally on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
The use of this wide spectrum of fuels is
managed by only one ECU. They are alternated according to
the necessity of the moment, and the driver does not
interfere in the process. Decide which fuel is
more suitable at each moment is carried out automatically by the ECU.
The system, which has been developed
jointly with Magneti Marelli, selects the best fuel for each
condition, always giving special attention to economy. The
first option is the CNG. If system detects a necessity to
use another fuel – for example, during moments of strong
accelerations – the system automatically transfers for another
fuel option in a smooth and automatic way. However, whatever
the alternative that is used the car keeps its performance
uniform and convincing.
