The fastest
ever production Maserati, the GranTurismo S, has arrived
in Sydney ahead of its Australian and New Zealand debut
at the Australian International Motor Show (9-19 October
2008).
During its
flying tour of Sydney’s sights before it settles into the
Darling Harbour Exhibition centre as the show star, a few
lucky people scored a sneak preview and were left without
any doubts just how special the GranTurismo S is with its
exhaust barking and crackling in Sport mode. The brief tour
demonstrated its twin silencer system, one for quiet
cruising and one to make it sound like its racing brother,
the Maserati MC12, which has swept all before it in the FIA
GT World Sports Car Championship.
There were,
though no opportunities to fully exploit the new 4.7 litre
323 KW V8 engine, electro-actuated gearbox with fast MC
Shift, Transaxle layout, and brakes made with dual-cast
technology that make the GranTurismo S the new flagship for
Maserati sporting flair, with acceleration from 0 to 100 kmh
in 4.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 295 kmh – the highest
ever reached by a standard production Maserati.
The new Maserati
GranTurismo S will share the limelight at the Australian
International Motor Show with the new Maserati Quattroporte
and Australia’s biggest motor show will see Maserati
announce prices and specifications for both of its new
models.
“The stunning
looks of the Maserati GranTurismo has made it a head turner
worldwide,” says Edward Butler, General Manager of Maserati
Australia and New Zealand. “Thanks to its sports exhaust
system, the GranTurismo S can turn heads before it even
comes into sight!”
