Tomorrow
afternoon in Maranello Scuderia Ferrari will present its
new 2008 Formula 1 car to the international press as
they begin the build up towards the start of the new
season. The car, sporting the logo of the Constructors'
Championship 2007, will debut on the team's private race
track at Fiorano the next day (Monday), with F1 World
Champion Kimi Raikkonen behind the wheel.
This early
debut will allow the
Italian team to hit the track running with their 2008
car ahead of all their main rivals. Their closest
competitors last year, McLaren-Mercedes, will unveil
their new F1 car on Monday in Stuttgart (Germany) while
Toyota plan to launch their contender on 10th January.
BMW with present their new machine on 16th January in
Munich, while Red Bull expect to show their car a day
later when F1 testing kicks off in Valencia.
The Finnish driver, his Brazilian team mate Felipe Massa
and the technical management of the Scuderia - Technical
Director Aldo Costa, Engine Director Gilles Simon and
Operations Director Mario Almondo - will meet up in
Maranello tomorrow with more than 80 journalists from 13
different countries, including China, under the lead of
Stefano Domenicali, who has been head of the Gestione
Sportiva since 1st January.
Ferrari
unveiled a sneak look at the new car, likely to be
dubbed the F2008, this afternoon, although the image
which just showed a partially uncovered airbox, proudly
adorned with the constructors championship logo, offered
very few clues.
However,
Technical Director Aldo Costa, who has guided the new
car's design, recently spoke to Italian sports newspaper
Gazzetta dello Sport, suggesting that there
will be a number of visual changes from the F2007, which
won the drivers' and constructors' titles last year:
"The front of the car will be different, as far as the
monocoque is concerned, with differently shaped sidepods,
and the wing will be new too."
