Having
already secured the title in the N2 category (set aside for
cars with 1.6
engines, limited preparation and 4x2 traction) of the
2007 Brazilian Rally Championship with the crew Fabio
Dall'Agnol and Marcelo Dalmut; the Fiat Rally Team
has guaranteed second place in the A6 category (for 1.6
engines, unlimited preparation and 4x2 traction), with
the crew of outgoing champions Luís Tedesco and Bruno Mega during the
eighth and final round of the series, the Rally Paraná Campina Grande do Sul which was held on 8th December
in the city of Campina Grande do Sul in the south of
Brazil.
As a reward for
having already clinched the title in N2, Dall'Agnol and
Dalmut competed in the A6 category in the last round
driving the new Fiat Palio Abarth (2008) claiming an excellent second place, a great result for the young
crew's debut in the category. "The car is more powerful and
I could already feel the difference on the first stage. I
hope that 2008 will be as good as it was this season for us
and that next year I will be able to compete in the A6
category," said Dall'Agnol the youngest pilot (at 21 years old)
in the category to ever conquer the title of the Brazilian
Rally Championship.
Tedesco and Mega
meanwhile weren't able to clinch the A6 crown which would
have given them a unprecedented fifteenth title; they came into
the rally lying in second place in the points standings and they
finished in the same position in the final standings. The
crew led the class almost up to the end of the day but a
flat tyre caused several other problems ending the possibility
of the Team being able to dispute the championship title with the
crew of Rafael Túlio and Gilvan Jablonski from the Peugeot Rally
Team.
"First of all it
is necessary to congratulate Tulio and Jablonski who deserve
the title, it was a very rough championship on the
tracks and very controversial off the trails. I was able to
take four victories in eight rallies but as I was not
allowed to score in the round in Minas Gerais for reason of
the regulations, this fact could be considered very
important for losing the eleventh title of Fiat Rally Team," affirmed Tedesco,
who is a fourteen time champion in the category.
The last rally
of the year accomplished what had been promised: a high level of emotion in
the A6 category right until the finish line, a great contest
between two crews, two teams and two brands. The Brazilian
Rally Championship arrived to the end of the
season with another brand, Chevrolet, competing for the title
with Fiat and Peugeot, and everything indicates that good news will soon come to light for the category in terms
of new pilots, teams and brands.
The Fiat/Ted
Racing Team is sponsored by: Fiat, Banco Fiat and supported
by Yokohama, Sparco, Formacco, Santa Rita, Jump, Artmix,
Academia Limit, RSSP, Iveco and Fila.
