Porsche
specialists Tech 9 Motorsport have announced their
intention to run a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 in
the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship. As one of
the most successful European GT race teams, the entry of
a Lamborghini will come as a surprise, but welcome,
entry to give further diversity to a grid that has
already attracted record entry numbers since SRO
announced the GT3/GT4 package.
The team has
signed ex European Ferrari Challenge Champion Oliver Morley,
and are currently evaluating a number of drivers for the
seat alongside Oliver.
Team Principal
Phil Hindley said: “We are very excited about the prospect
of running a Gallardo, we have a new car arriving in March
and aim to get in some pre-season testing before the season
opener at our home track at Oulton Park 22-24 March. The
Lamborghini will run alongside a 2008 specification 997 GT3
Cup. The progress that we made with the Porsche last year,
along with the 2008 updates, should give us a competitive
package to form the basis of our assault on the 2008
Championship”
Oliver Morley
has been a very successful Ferrari racer to date, winning
the Ferrari European Trofeo Shell Championship in 2005 to
his credit, plus regular top five finisher in the super
competitive Ferrari European series against some very
serious professional European drivers for the last two
seasons with Baron Racing of Austria.
Oliver Morley
said: “The chance to race a Gallardo in British GT this
Season is a fantastic prospect. My years driving in Europe
have been a great proving ground, and the dynamics of the
Lambo should suit my experience with the Ferrari. I suppose
a GT3 Ferrari would have been the obvious choice but there
are so many entered this season and wanted to try something
different, anyway I have enough Ferrari race suits!.”
“I have enjoyed
the GT racing that I have entered to date including the Spa
24 in a 997RSR and the Dubai 24hours in a Duller M3GTR, I
see this program as a real exciting prospect to getting back
onto the podium and can capitalise on my past British racing
experience as I know all the tracks well! I’m looking
forward to partnering a quick British driver to help us
achieve our goal whilst giving me a solid fresh start to my
future in GT racing.”
