The Ferrari
F430s competing in the 2008 FIA GT Championship ended
the race season by taking the top four places in the
final round, held on Sunday afternoon at the brand new
San Luis circuit in Argentina. The Maranello race cars
have already clinched the drivers', teams titles' in the
FIA GT2 class before the series arrived in Argentina for
the final round. On top of this great result, the same
weekend also saw a win for the F430 GT in the Vallelunga
6 Hours.
The packed crowd at the unique Argentinial Portrero de
los Funes circuit, was treated to a home win courtesy of
Matias Russo and Luis Perez Companc. At the end of a
truly spectacular race, the Advanced Engineering Pecom
Racing crew took the GT2 class victory ahead of the new
FIA GT2 champions Gimmi Bruni and Toni Vilander and
their AF Corse team-mates, Christian Montanari and
Thomas Biagi. Completing the clean sweep, crossing the
line in fourth place was the F430 GT driven by Andrew
Kirkaldy and Robert Bell for CR Scuderia.
Meanwhile on Saturday 22nd November, the Ferrari F430 GT
driven by Marco Cioci, Piergiuseppe Perazzini and
Maurizio Mediani took the Gold Cup in the XVIII running
of the Vallelunga 6 Hours, the traditional season finale
organised at the eponymous race track near Rome.
Completing 216 laps in 6h00'09"172, the Advanced
Engineering crew was the first to win the event with a
car homologated in the GT2 category. They took the flag
ahead of the trio made up of Maurizio Fratti/Alex Caffi/Richard
Leitz, also driving a GT2 car (Porsche 997 RSR) and the
Radical SR8 of Nigel Greensall/Massimo Vignali/Luigi
Ferrara.
