At the end of the 76th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans yesterday, American Le Mans Series GT2 Champions Risi Competizione led a clean sweep for Ferrari of the GT2 podium after running a faultless and completely trouble free race. Gianmaria Bruni, Jaime Melo and Mika Salo drove their Ferrari 430 GT as only Champions can, not putting a foot wrong throughout the entire 24 hours, despite difficult weather and track conditions during the second half of the race. Risi Competizione ran out victors by a huge 8 lap margin, made all the larger when the Virgo Motorsports-entered Ferrari F430 GT running in second place dropped out with engine failure near the end.

Ferrari took a 1-2-3-4 finish to crush its rivals Porsche which was defending the GT2 title. The German brand's challenge collapsed early on, after qualifying on the pole and running first and second at the beginning of the race, an accident and technical trouble robbed all hopes of the Porsche teams repeating last year’s class victory.

An emotional Giuseppe Risi said afterwards: "This is tremendous. The last time we were here as a winner I was in partnership with Doyle [1998], but this is my own team and it's been going now since 2000. To me, winning Le Mans is worth winning a whole championship. One talks about Le Mans in very light terms but until you come here and have to grind through the night, hoping that the car holds together, racing against other people you respect and who are qualified to come here...and you see drivers who are top level but who have accidents and fall by the wayside. It's a lifetime achievement, especially to do it with Ferrari, and if you are a professional in the automotive world. I can't say enough about it.

At the front, and against relentless and strong opposition from Peugeot during the entire 24 hours, Audi won the 76th running of the 24 hours of Le Mans 2008. The Ingolstadt based marque secured its 8th victory in 9 attempts, this time thanks to the trio Kristensen-McNish-Capello. The Danish driver, Tom Kristensen also celebrated his 8th personal victory in this classic race which establishes a new record. Peugeot completed the podium by putting two of their 908 Hdi FAP models into second and third place.
