Alfa Romeo's
official historical museum team
and the famous 6C1500 Super Sport were the indisputable stars
of the “Festa Mille Miglia” that took place in Japan
from 11 to 14 October.
This victory was achieved after
wins in 2007 at the “1000 Milas Argentina” and in the
latest edition of the “Mille Miglia Italiana” when
Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo drove off with the
outright winner's title and also the team Cup, with two
cars placed amongst the first six of the overall
rankings in what is considered “the Queen of Historical
Races” (a historical re-enactment of the race that Enzo
Ferrari described as "the finest race in the world", now
reserved for classic cars built before 1957).
The race was won
by the team Luciano Viaro and Toru Ishikawa the pair
returning to the
winner’s podium at this Japanese event after a success in
2006, that time with the 6C1750 GS. Lest we forget, the Italian driver
also won the 2004 edition race at the wheel of a Disco Volante Coupè
car from the Arese Museum, also carrying the Automobilismo
Storico Alfa Romeo team colours.
No fewer than
116 cars took place in the “Festa Mille Miglia 2008”,
driving over a route of more than 1600 km from Tokyo-Harajuku
to Yokohama. The Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport, the supreme
victor, is a model that shares a particular empathy with the
1000 Miglia race: in 1928 it won the speed race with the
team of Campari-Ramponi, the first in a string of eleven
Alfa Romeo wins (still an unbeaten record) at the great
classic race held in Brescia.
