Alfa Romeo
is in Norway filming its range of sports cars from the
new Alfa MiTo to the stylish 8C Competizione on the
Atlanterhavsveien, a dramatic stretch of island-linking
road that is regarded as providing some of the most
stunning stretches of scenery in the world.
The
Atlanterhavsveien is a unique road that provides an over
water connection between the municipalities Averøy and
Eide through a series of eight sweeping bridges. It is
located in the area of Nordmøre in the district Møre og
Romsdal. Plans were first mooted in 1909 to connect the
island of Averøy to the mainland. At that time a railway
was considered the best option but as the automobile
became more and more available in Norway the railway
plans were put to one side in 1935.
It wasn't until the 1970s that the ambitious road
project plans moved towards fruition and finally on
August 1 1983 construction started on the
Atlanterhavsveien. The dramatic road, with its bridges
that curve and sweep and arch upwards to allow shipping
to pass underneath, opened six years later on July 7
1989. There are eight bridges in total: the
Vevangstraumen Bridge (116 m), the Hulvågen Bridge which
comprises of three three bridges (totalling 293 m), the
Storseisundet Bridge (260 m), the Geitøysundet Bridge
(52 m), the Store Lauvøysund Bridge (52 m) and the Lille
Lauvøysund Bridge (115 m).
Alfa Romeo
has been filming on the Atlanterhavsveien as part of a
series of worldwide films that will to used to advertise
the brand. Six cars took part in the filming process:
the MiTo, 147, 159 sedan, 159 Sportwagon, GT Coupé and
8C Competizione. "This
is the great Norwegian commercial, a promotional film
what will be used in Europe, 'The Atlanterhavsveien Road
- Norway',"says Jarle Tangen who represents Loop Films,
a company closely involved in shooting the latest Harry
Potter movie. Movie Magic International is the partner
of Loop Films in the Alfa Romeo project. The cars were
all flown in on a freight plane and they will now depart
for Dubai where the final instalment of filming is due
to take place.
"We think it
is very positive that the Alfa Romeo is filming in
Norway, and not least, that this creates a positive
publicity around the brand," commented Auto Import Nor
AS CEO Erik Eidem. Auto Import Nor AS is the official
imported of Alfa Romeo in Norway. "The Norwegian
landscape combined with the beautiful Alfa Romeo design
is the ultimate combination," added Eidem.
