At the same time as the long-running,
Brazilian-built
Fiat Palio hatchback gets a minor 'Model Year' designated facelift, the entry-level Palio Fire
version has received the new 1.0 engine launched last year in the new Siena model. The
new engine, developed by FPT Powertrain Technologies in Brazil, is more powerful, in spite
of reducing the levels of consumption and emissions by 9 percent. To emphasise
that efficient aspect, the model now is named Palio Fire Economy.
When the
Brazilian developed and manufactured Palio received its most
recent comprehensive facelift (dubbed the 'Palio 2008') in
March 2007, the outgoing-generation version's base model was
retained by Fiat Automóveis as a new entry-level model for
the Palio range on the Brazilian and other Latin American
markets, and it is easily identifiable from the front by its
smaller headlight units and less prominent radiator grille,
while at the back a different tailgate and bigger corner
light units mark it out from the restyled MY2008 version.
Now with the Palio 2008 gets a tidying up, and while
retaining the same outward appearance, the entry model sees
some improvements made, mainly in the area of the engine.
The changes are
not restricted only to the new engine though; inside the
cabin, the model has a new design for its dashboard,
incorporating the “Econômetro” device, an indicator which
teaches the driver to drive in a more fuel efficient manner,
with a screen showing the immediate level of consumption
along with the speed of the car, both readings being
provided by the central electronic injection system.
The list of
optional equipment includes: electric windows with an
automatic function and anti-pinch device, remote central
locking, electric rear side windows with anti-pinch system,
CD player with MP3, double airbag, air conditioning, ABS and
power steering.
