Extreme California turner Heffner Performance
has created a twin-turbocharged rear-wheel-drive
version of the Lamborghini Murciélago which it
claims will boast a staggering 1100 bhp once the
ambitious project is completed.
Heffner
Performance is a leading provider of forced induction
systems for some of the most exotic automobiles on the road
today. It primarily provides systems, parts and
accessories for the Dodge Viper and Ford GT as well as
Lamborghini models. Heffner Performance started in 1998 with
a "dream of working on fast cars" to what it has today.
Based out of Sarasota Florida, Heffner Performance is a growing company that is
housed within an ever evolving state of the art facility.
The firm already
provides performance upgrades for the sister Gallardo LP560-4,
including its twin-turbo conversion as well as carbon-fibre
styling components and other tuning parts. Now it has rolled
out its twin-turbo conversion package theme onto the Murciélago. "After several long months of development we have completed
our twin turbo Murciélago," Heffner Performance says on its website. "As of August 2009 we have tuned the car up to 1 bar
of boost which resulted in just over 1100 RWHP [Rear Wheel Horse Power]. For now we are playing around
with the car at various boost levels and documenting the differences in
performance with our trusty V Box."
"We are not just installers of parts,"
Heffner Performance says. "We are trailblazers always going back to
the drawing board with new ideas and innovative projects. While our 'bread and
butter' is providing proven systems for your exotic, we also welcome 'special
projects' based on your needs as well. Please feel free to call us to discuss,"
they continue. "The tuner business is a delicate project of balance. A balance of horsepower,
design and reliability. Without this balance your experience with such machines
may be compromised. We strive in creating products that will provide all of the
above.
As a result, we have more miles on our systems than any other tuner within our
niche."
They add that
current testing data is centred around the base Murciélago being tuned
up to a lower figure of 950 bhp. "In 90 degree heat the car pulled off a 5.10 second 60-130
at around 950 RWHP," Heffner Performance adds on its website. "For reference a stock 580 horsepower
Murciélago takes around
9.5 seconds to make the leap from 60 to 130. With a little more boost it will dip into the 4 second range for sure."
No 0-60 mph acceleration times are mention so one assumes
that they are still solving sticking the car to the road
with just two-wheel-drive and such extreme performance levels
in tow. "The Heffner Twin Turbo
Murciélago is an absolute blast to drive and sounds like
nothing we have ever heard," they add.
