A Monaco Grand Prix-winning Maserati 250F is set to steal the limelight at Ferrari’s annual home auction event, the Ferrari Leggenda e Passione in Maranello on 17 May 2009 as one of the star cars to come under the hammer at what has become the annual auction event for unique Italian performance cars.

The Maserati 250F is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful and successful Grand Prix cars ever made. In period it enjoyed enormous competition success in the hands of legendary names such as Juan-Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. Organisers of the Ferrari Leggenda e Passione, RM Auctions, will offer for sale the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix-winning example taken to victory in the hands of Stirling Moss.

Chassis number 2526 enjoyed an extensive racing career and was also driven in period by Fangio, Jean Behra, Carroll Shelby and others during the 1957 and 1958 seasons. Amazingly, the current owner is only the fourth privileged custodian of this significant car since it was manufactured. The Auction estimate for this unique car is Euro 1.7 to 2.0 million.

The Ferrari Leggenda e Passione auction event will take place on 17 May 2009 at Ferrari’s legendary test track, Fiorano, with the preview days on 15 – 17 May 2009.
