After struggling
during the two Friday practice sessions the Toro Rosso team
make big changes overnight to the set-up of the STR4 which
paid off as both drivers turned in respectable qualifying
performances last night in Singapore. The Red Bull-owned,
Faenza, Italy-based team will now be hoping that they can
carry that momentum forward and put a string of lacklustre
results behind them in this evening's Singapore Grand Prix.
Swiss youngster
Sebastien Buemi forced his way through to the Q2 session and
eventually posted the fourteenth quickest time which puts
him ahead of Jarno Trulli's Toyota and Adrian Sutil's Force
India on the starting grid. It is his highest qualifying
position for ten races, a run stretching back to the Chinese
Grand Prix in April where he secured a spot on the fifth
row. His 19-year-old team mate Jaime Alguersuari, who will
be starting only his fifth grand prix later today, hauled
himself off the back row where he has been rooted on four
occasions, to qualify in seventeen place, and thus equal his
best qualifying performance so far which came at last
month's Belgian Grand Prix.
Sebastien Buemi
(STR4-03): “I am quite happy, as the session went smoothly
without any mistakes. I got the most I could out of the car
and am pleased to have got ahead of Trulli. I’m glad to
finally be back in Q2 as it’s been a long time. Now we need
to work on a race strategy, make a good start and run the
pit stops well.”
