Formula 1
testing at Barcelona - the last for the Scuderia
Ferrari, BMW and Toyota, the penultimate for all the
other teams before the first race of the season at
Melbourne – are a real premiere. For the first time this
year all the ten teams, participating in the Formula 1
Championships, are on the track at the same time during
this test session and this morning saw the debut of the
new Scuderia Toro Rosso single-seater, powered by a
Ferrari engine, as well as the brand-new Brawn GP which
has risen out of the ashes of the Honda team.
For the team from Maranello, back on the race track
testing once again just four days after completing the
last F1 test in Jerez, Kimi Raikkonen was behind
the F60's wheel when the action got underway this
morning. The Finnish driver started the day working on
the car's development, in particular looking for the
best setup.
Raikkonen completed just 25 laps before the lunch
break due to several pits stops because the Scuderia's
mechanics had to carry out checks of the car's underbody.
The lap times at that point weren't very expressive
because the F60 was out for just one lap on the regular
tyres. Raikkonen, with a best lap of 1.22.869, was only
faster at that point than the slowest driver on the track and
the Finnish 2007 F1 World Champion was almost
two seconds slower than Jenson Button (1.21.140) with
the new Brawn F1 car which is sporting the name of the Scuderia's former technical director.
By the end of
the first of four days of official testing in Barcelona this
afternoon Raikkonen had covered a total of
81 laps at the wheel of the F60 with the quickest of these
being in a time of 1:20.908. Testing continues at this
circuit tomorrow, again with Raikkonen on track for the
Scuderia.
