25.04.2009 FERRARI TO TEST YOUNG ITALIAN STARS OF THE FUTURE

FERRARI F2008

The top three drivers in the 2008 Italian F3 classification were Mirko Bortolotti, Edoardo Piscopo and Salvatore Cicatelli and last November the youngsters alternated behind the wheel of the F2008 during a special test day.

Once again this year Scuderia Ferrari and the ACI-CSAI will organise a day of testing, using the Formula 1 car, aimed at evaluating young talent from the world of Italian motor sport. Getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari F60 will be the top three finishers in the 2009 Italian Formula 3 Championship. During the day, they will work alongside engineers from the Scuderia in a proper day of testing work.

“We are proud to continue our collaboration with the ACI-CSAI,” commented Scuderia Team Principal, Stefano Domenicali. “The development of motor sport for youngsters is a theme that is particularly close to our hearts and we believe this day of testing is a further boost to generating interest in a championship that continues to grow.”

Traditionally Ferrari doesn't offer tests to young drivers coming up the single seater ladder; however that all changed on November 27 last year when the first three drivers in the final classification of the Italian F3 Championship were handed the opportunity to test the Ferrari F2008 at the team's private test track, Fiorano. The test came about thanks to Fiat Powertrain Technologies Racing (FPT Racing) which sponsors the Italian F3 series and the National Federation ACI-CSAI. The top three drivers in the 2008 classification last year were Mirko Bortolotti, Edoardo Piscopo and Salvatore Cicatelli and the youngsters alternated behind the wheel of the F2008 in a testing day overseen by the race team's technicians led by the team manager Luca Baldisseri. From 10 am to 4.30 pm the mostly wanted single seater by any racing driver was made available to the three young talents of Italian motor-racing under the gaze of the usual Ferrari fans that are always ready to crowd next to barriers of the test track at every scream of the Maranello 8 cylinder engines.
