Altomar and Oswaldo Amorim driving a Fiat Palio
emerged as the winners of the N2 category of the
second round of the Campeonato Mineiro de
Rally de Velocidade an event which also
counted towards the Trofeo Fiat de Rally.
The one-day rally also counted as a round of the
Campeonato Paulista de Rally de Velocidade.
The pair's
victory came after covering the 90 kilometres route of a
very technically demanding course that included many tricky
bends mixed with high-speed straight sections, with Altomar
and Oswaldo Amorim posting the fastest time on five of the
event's six timed stages. It was only the third time that
the pilot and navigator have worked together. Second place
in N2 went to Edurado Cunha and Eduardo Soneca who were 22
seconds back at the end, while Fábio Sacioto and Arthur
Carrão were third; they were 50 seconds adrift of the
winners.
Fiat Automóveis
has a long and strong commitment to rallying in Brazil both
at top national level and in the promotion of grassroots
development through its popular Trofeo Fiat de Rally
series which features the Fiat Palio running in N2 category
specification. Every year it takes place and the top five
crews on each event that counts towards the Trofeo Fiat
de Rally receive a cash prize: R$ 3.000,00 goes to the
winning crew, R$ 2.000,00 to the runner-up, R$ 1.500,00 for
third place, R$ 1.000,00 for fourth, and R$ 500,00 for
fifth.
The next and
third round of the Trofeo Fiat de Rally will take
place next month in Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais, with the
event being part of the prestigious Campeonato Rally
Brasileiro de Velocidade where the national title
chasing factory-supported Tedracing Palio Abarth of Luís
Tedesco will also be in action.
