It was a busy weekend for the
Ferrari F430 GT entered
in three major international GT series, and claiming
multiple podium appearances in the FIA GT
Championship, the American Le Mans Series and the Spanish
Open GT Championship.
After the season opener two weeks ago at
Silverstone, the FIA GT series was back on track at the
shortest and tightest circuit of the season, the 2.7 kms of
Adria, for the only two hours of night racing on the
calendar. At the end of an action packed race, the two F430s
entered by the Italian AF Corse squad, made it to the second
and third steps of the podium, behind the Porsche 997 of
Emmanuel Collard and Richard Westbrook. Gimmi Bruni, in a
car shared with Toni Vilander, had the misfortune to make
contact with Englishman Tim Mullen at the first corner, but,
despite having to make an unplanned pit stop, still managed
to finish second, ahead of the sister Ferrari crewed by
Alvaro Barba Lopez and Niki Cadei. The next round of the FIA GT Championship
takes place at Oschersleben in Germany, over the weekend of
21 June.
The fourth round of the American Le Mans
Series, the Utah Grand Prix took place at Salt Lake City’s
Miller Motorsports Park. The Risi Competizione Ferrari F430
GT,
driven by Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer took third place,
behind the two Porsche 911s of Joerg Bergmeister-Patrick
Long and Wolf Henzler-Marc Lieb. The Houston based Ferrari team
thus picked up valuable points going into the next round,
scheduled for 19th July at the Lime Rock circuit, in Lakesville, Minnesota.
The second round of the Open Spanish GT
Championship took place at the Portimão circuit in the
Algarve, Portugal, with the crew of Giacomo Ricci and
Michele Rugolo (Advanced Engineering) taking second place in
Race 1, behind Gianluca Roda and Richard Lietz in a Porsche
997 and ahead of the sister car of Pedro Couceiro and Manuel
Giao. Race 2 saw Ferrari come out on top thanks to Marcel
Fassler and Joel Camathias. The crew entered by the Swiss
team, Trottet Racing, crossed the line ahead of the
Giao-Couceiro Porsche and the F430 of Marco Cioci and
Piergiuseppe Pierazzini (Megadrive). The Spanish series is back in action at
Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, over the weekend of 26
July.
