Last
weekend, the South African circuit Kyalami hosted the
fifth round of the A1GP Championship and the event also
saw four of the race track-only 'laboratory' cars from
the prestigious FXX Programme taking to the track.
Canadian owner Lorne Leibel along with fellow American
owner-test drivers Philip and Phil III Bachman, taking
turns at the wheel of car 22, Germany's Eberhard Jung
and Aaron Kwok from Hong Kong, took part in five timed
sessions, further contributing to the development of
this technical collaboration programme, set up in 2006.
A special guest on the Saturday came in the form of
Scuderia Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, who visited the
FXX garage, prior to getting behind the wheel of a
Ferrari 599 Safety Car, for some hot laps of the circuit
that is the former home of the South African Grand Prix.
Meanwhile
Scuderia Ferrari is concluding the preparations for the test
sessions, which will be held next week, from 1st to 5th
March, at Jerez de la Frontera in Southern Spain. During the
week Luca Badoer performed some aerodynamic tests on the
straight at the Vairano circuit, knocking down several
solutions, which will be part of the package for the Ferrari
F60's debut in the Formula 1 World Championship.
The duration of
the Spanish test has been extended to five days to enable
the teams - apart from the Scuderia there will be McLaren,
BMW, Toyota, Red Bull, Renault, Williams and Force India -
to test for the first time the tyres Bridgestone will use as
of the upcoming season.
Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa will be present at the
penultimate test session before the 2009 season starts at
Melbourne. The Brazilian will start the sessions on Sunday
until Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday Raikkonen will be
behind the wheel of the F60.
