To celebrate the start of the Alfa Romeo centenary year,
Allams Alfa Romeo in Epsom, Surrey has attempted to make
history by setting a new Guinness World Record, for the
largest ever parade of Alfa Romeo cars.
More than 300 Alfa Romeo owners arrived at the dealership to
take part in the event including an Alfa SZ, Alfa Spider
2000 Veloce and the very latest sporty compact Alfa MiTo.
For a new record to stand at least 200 cars were required to
take part on the day, but the event proved so popular that
312 cars were registered with one driver, David Boyd, from
Bathgate, West Lothian, presented with a special award for
driving 862 miles to join in with the record-breaking
two-mile drive.
Karen Finn, Customer Care & Marketing Manager at Allams, who
organised the event, said: "The sun was shining for a
fantastic record day and we'd like to say a big thank you to
all those involved in making it so special, especially to
the drivers, some of whom came a long way to take part. The
huge display of these beautiful and sporting cars is the
perfect way to celebrate the Alfa Romeo centenary year."
To meet official requirements, the world's largest Alfa
Romeo parade needed to be continuously moving from start to
finish, there were no more than two cars length between each
vehicle at any time and each driver was fully registered
before the event. Video cameras were positioned along the
route as well as at both the start and finish lines to
assist with the verification. Guinness World Record
officials will verify the outcome of the attempt in the
coming weeks.
