The tenth edition of
Autoclásica, one of the most important festivals
dedicated to classic motorbikes and cars in the South
American region, was this year headlined by the Argentinean debut of the
new Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
Autoclásica
2010 was capably organised as usual by the Club de Automóviles
Clásicos with input this edition from the Argentinean ministry of
tourism which declared it to be an event of interest and
it took place in the gardens of the Hipódromo de San
Isidro, the famous Buenos Aires horse racing track
on Avenue Santa Fe y Marquez.
As a key part of this
important and prestigious annual event, the 100th anniversary
of the Alfa Romeo marque was celebrated in fitting style
and in perfect surroundings for the Cuore Sportivo. More
than thirty Alfa Romeo models from past-to-present were
on show right from the
majestic RL of 1923 to the new Giulietta which was
making its national debut and which caught the attention
of the crowds that streamed into Autoclásica
2010.
Alfa Romeo Argentina,
now managed by the importer Centro Milano S.A., will
offer the Giulietta with three engine option, all Euro 5
compliant and with the additional option of the
fuel-saving Start&Stop system.
The powerplant range will be made up of the 1.4 turbo
with 120 CV, the 1.4 turbo fitted with Fiat Powertrain's
innovative valve timing control system, Multiair, with 170 CV,
and finally, the brilliant 1750 TBi unit with 235 CV.
The C-segment Giulietta, which replaced the long-running
Alfa 147, is based on a brand-new platform and all
versions on the local market will include 6-speed transmission, Alfa Romeo's DNA
system, disc brakes all round and all the safety features that
helped the five-door car to achieve its EuroNCAP five star rating.
The white-finished Giulietta on the
Argentinean market will start from a price of 31,500 euros and come with a three year warrantee. On the
carefully manicured lawns of the tranquil and quite
idyllic setting of the Hipódromo de San Isidro
the Giulietta garnered much attention and admiration
from the many visitors and amongst the gleaming Alfa
Romeo models to cluster
round its dais was its current range sister, the MiTo
three-door hatchback,
which is already on sale at the Argentinean dealerships,
as well as historic models such as the evocative Spider, one of
the cars most synonymous with the Italian sports brand.
