The launch
advert for the Fiat Linea sedan in India has just
scooped the Car Advertisement of the Year honour
at the Bloomberg UTV-Autocar Awards which were
held in Mumbai on Friday evening. The advert called
Father and Son is part of a campaign that was
devised for Fiat Automobiles India by the advertising
agency Bates141.
The advert
sees a young boy and his father walking along a pavement
in a shopping district with the boy peering longingly into a toy
store window. His father pulls him away and this
scenario is repeated before the father's attention is
grabbed by a Linea and the roles are reversed with the
child unable to pull his father away. Sonal Dabral,
Sanjay Sipahimalani, Kaushik Mitra and Joseph Desouza
were the creative team that put the spot together which
was directed by Prasoon Pandey from Corcoise Films.
The Linea wasn't
the only prize-winner for Fiat in the Bloomberg
UTV-Autocar Awards as the Punto, which was launched in
India last summer, won the award for Best Design and
Styling of the Year. The big award for the evening for
Car of the Year though went to Tata Nano while
Bajaj's Pulsar 135 4v won the Bike of the Year honour
and Tata's Indigo Manza claimed the Best Value for Money
Car.
In 2006 there were six cars competing for the Car of the
Year award. In 2007, the number of contenders shot up to
eleven. Car of the Year 2008 had 13 contenders and in 2009,
the number shot up to sixteen. This year 20 cars were
competing for the prestigious Bloomberg UTV-Autocar Car
of the Year award. The jury this year consisted of Dilip
Chhabria (car designer), Manwendra Singh (writer and
historian) Hormazd Sorabjee (editor, Autocar India), Shapur
Kotwal (deputy editor, Autocar India), Renuka Kirpalani
(editor, Autocar Show), Rajeev Khanna (rally driver) and
Naren Kumar (a national champion). About the Nano the jury
said: "The tiny, twin-cylinder four-door Nano represents a
history-making attempt by Tata Motors. When the Nano was
launched, people asked is it really a proper car? After all
nobody in the world had ever designed and launched a car for
one-lakh rupees. The answer is there for everyone to see,
feel, drive and live it. The beauty of this car is not how
much it costs, but how much it delivers for so little. The
Tata Nano is a car that delivers what it promised, thus
making it our undisputed Car of the Year."
