At the 2010 edition of Challenge Bibendum, which this time has been held in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil last week, Fiat Automóveis’ newest model, the Fiat Uno, has walked off with
the important award for "Best Design" of a prototype that is based on a production
model. The Fiat Uno prototype, powered by alcohol, was elected to this honour by an
international jury consisting of journalists and car designers, beating off other
prototype cars including an Audi A5 also converted to run on alcohol.
Collecting an honour at
Challenge Bibendum is coveted as the bi-annual event,
that has now been running for more than a decade, is
regarded as one of the foremost arenas for the pursuit
of environmentally-sustainable and alternative-fuelled motoring.
Challenge Bibendum, which is sponsored by tyre
manufacturer Michelin, is a leading forum to address all
the issues of a multi-stakeholder sector such as road
mobility. Now, believes Challenge Bibendum, is the
moment to push transformations and invent a more
sustainable road mobility. This international event
combines technical tests and evaluations, demonstrations
and test drives to gauge the progress of vehicles,
energies and technologies. Technologies and trends are
debated in forums and conferences. Private and public
sector opinion leaders and decision-makers gauge the
advances and future sustainable energy paths for a
better mobility.
The
new Uno is already wowing customers in Fiat’s Brazilian
showrooms in a way no other model has done for the
manufacturer in the country during recent years. At Challenge Bibendum last
week the B-segment Uno impressed the judges in
particular for its distinctive and different design,
that they saw as being both modern and daring in its realisation. This award confirms the success of the new
model with all manner of audiences in less than a month since its
official launch.
The Fiat Uno is commercially available in Brazil now in
four specification finishes, all coming with five doors
- two fitted with a new and more efficient 1.0-litre
FIRE engine and two with a bigger. and again refined, 1.4-litre version. All
the engines come with dual fuel (gasoline and alcohol)
capability, meaning consumers can be sure of finding a
thoroughly modern car with bold styling on the outside, responsive
engines underneath the bonnet, and with a very distinct
personality. The four versions now on sale in Brazil
are: Uno Vivace 1.0 Flex, Uno Way 1.0 Flex, Uno
Attractive 1.4 Flex and Uno Way 1.4 Flex. The Uno will during the
next two years be built in other countries, starting
with Serbia and India.
