The new Fiat Uno, which
is proving to be an instant hit with car buyers in the
showrooms across Brazil, has been quickly signed up for
the country's Policia Militar and, reinterpreted
in this tough and always demanding new law and order
role, it has been one of the star exhibits at
Interseg 2010, Latin America's biggest public safety
and security show, which took place at the downtown
convention centre in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, over
the weekend.
The
10th edition of Interseg 2010: Feita
Internacional de Tecnologia, Serviços e Produtos para a
Segurança Pública (International Trade Fair of
Technology, Services and Products for Public Safety) and
the 8th running of IACP
(South American Public Security Executive Conference),
held in conjunction, bring together police leaders,
state and regional authorities, and institutions to
discuss new methods and technologies and has taken place
this year from June 13-15 at the Centro de
Convenções Centrosul, in Florianópolis.
By gathering leading businesses
in the industry in one place, Interseg presents a
unique opportunity for Latin American public security
professionals to learn about new methods and equipment.
Over 100 exhibitors took part over the three days and
more than 5,000 visitors were estimated to have
attended.
Fiat Automóveis has a
long history of providing capable vehicles for public
safety use, and the highlight of the Italian carmaker's
line-up at the show was the exciting new Fiat Uno, only
released onto the Brazilian market in May, realised as a
Policia Militar (Military Police) vehicle.
Prepared in partnership with niche vehicle conversion
specialist Rontan, the new project is based on the off
road-styled "Way" version of the Uno, which includes as
standard a raised ride height, tougher plastic
protection panels all round and an aluminium engine
protection plate. Added to that production package comes
new roof securing bars which also help to provide
anchoring points for the roof mounted flashing light
panel. The exterior includes auxiliary lights fitted iin
the top and bottom of the front spoiler cut-out sections
and decaling as well as roof numbers for the Policia
Militar de Minas Gerais, the region where Fiat
Automóveis' giant Brazilian factory is located. Inside
the the Uno Way is fitted with sirens, communication
equipment and new, more hard wearing carpets.
The production Uno is available in four formats:
Uno Vivace 1.0 Flex, Uno Way
1.0 Flex, Uno Attractive 1.4 Flex and
Uno Way 1.4 Flex. Alongside the Uno on show on Fiat
Automóveis' 204 m2 stand at Interseg 2010 was a Linea sedan specified for the
DETRAN Distrito Federal (Detran Federal District) and a Palio Weekend,
also equipped for the Policia Militar de Santa Catarina, further examples
of the wide ranging line-up of versatile vehicles that Fiat offers in Brazil that can be
tailored according to customers needs in diversified settings, such as troop
transportation, mobile police, ambulance, ICU and patroling duties.
