In the 44th edition of
the Auto Esporte magazine's annual awards, traditionally
the most important honours dedicated to the automobile industry
in Brazil, the new Fiat Uno has been elected the Car
of the Year 2011. The Uno collected exactly a third
of the votes cast while its only real rival of the
prestigious crown, the new Ford Fiesta, came in second
with 27 percent of the ballots in its favour. A distant
third was the Chevrolet Malibu (16 percent).
Not only did the new Uno
carry off the big prize of the night but Fiat Automóveis also won
the award of Publicity of the Year with the
campaign titled Novo Uno. Novo Tudo [New Uno. New
Everything]. And to end on a high note, the President of
Fiat Latin America, Cledorvino Belini, received the
title of Executive of the Year 2011.
With the awarding of the title of Car of the Year,
organized by Auto Esporte magazine, the new Uno
has swept up all the awards handed out by the specialist
automobile media in Brazil in which the car has
competed, becoming the big winner of the year, with six
awards in all. The other five are: Best Automotive
Press Car, Best Popular Car and Best
National Car from Abiauto (Brazilian
Automotive Press Association) and two more from Top
Car TV - Best Car up to 1000cc and Best
Car from 1000 to 1599cc.
“These awards have a
great importance, because we were able to interpret the
desires of the public with a product that has a modern,
bold and daring design, as is characteristic of the
Uno”, stated Belini. The Uno's sales have really taken
off since its launch back in May with almost 70,000
units now sold, and with a further list of about 20,000
confirmed orders.
It hit the Brazilian market earlier this year with four
versions rolled out at the launch: Uno Vivace 1.0, Uno
Way 1.0, Uno Attractive 1.4 and Uno Way 1.4 and at the
recent Sao Paulo Motor Show a new Sporting version was
added to the range while at the beginning of next year
the two-door version will be launched in Brazil. With
its strong and vibrant body colours, such as Citrus
Yellow, Box Green, Nemo Orange, the new Uno is taking
over Brazilian streets and making them more colorful and
livelier.
