The new Doblò Cargo
Natural Power, equipped with the 1.4 T-Jet dual fuel
(petrol/methane) engine, this week joins the Fiat
Professional range in Italy just under three months
after this option arrived in the showrooms in Fiat
Automobiles' "free space" version of the light van.
The Doblò Cargo Natural
Power range in Italy starts at 15,950 euros for the
entry-level model and it brings to six the number of
natural gas-powered light commercial vehicles offered
across the Fiat Professional range, joining the Panda
Van 1.2, Punto Van 1.2, 1.4 Grande Punto Van, Fiorino
1.4 and Ducato 3.0, an unprecedented number of LCVs for
an OEM. In fact Fiat has been a pioneer of natural gas
for over a decade and Fiat is the Italian market leader
in this sector with more that 9,300 registrations
recorded in 2009 and around 14,700 during the first six
months of this year.
The new
Doblò Cargo Natural Power fits the 1.4 16v T-Jet Euro 5
(petrol and methane) engine made by Fiat Powertrain
Technologies specifically designed for integration of
the two independent petrol and methane systems. The
engine is configured to normally work on natural gas. It
is always started on petrol and immediately and
automatically switched to methane. In this way, the
petrol fuel system remains efficient and is only
required for starting and when the gas in the cylinders
is about to run out. The driver can switch to petrol at
any time by pressing a button on the dashboard.
Belonging to the new T-Jet supercharged petrol engine
family, the 1.4 16v of the new Doblò Cargo Natural Power
features efficient performance and acceleration, low
fuel consumption, simple build, rugged design and
reliability. With a supercharger, intercooler and a
wastegate valve, the new engine delivers a maximum power
of 120 HP (on petrol and methane) and gradual torque
(206 Nm at 2000 rpm). It is mated up to a 6-speed
transmission. The new eco-friendly Doblò Natural Power
consolidates its class leading position with a CO2
emission level equivalent to 134 g/km on the combined
cycle.
Positioned under the floor to maintain the van's usable
loading volume, the four methane cylinders have a total
capacity of 95 litres, equal to 16.2 kg. This means it
has a range of 325 km (which is doubled by adding in the
kilometres which can be covered using the additional 35
litre petrol tank). On the combined cycle, using fully
methane power, the Doblò Cargo Natural Power achieves a
fuel consumption rate of 4.9 kg/100 km which equates to
a cost of just 4.16 euros per 100 km.
