Chrysler Group has
offered a fresh look at the restyled Dodge Charger just
ahead of its commercial launch, with a new image that
captures the cosmetically-enhanced sedan in its
"Pursuit" police force specification, a car that hopes
to provide law-enforcement agencies with a combination
of tactical technology, safety, power, efficiency and,
so believes Chrysler: "an iconic design that makes any
suspect stop in a panic."
The Dodge Charger sedan (along with its platform sister,
the Chrysler 300) is one of a raft of failing
Chrysler Group models that is getting a very rapid
makeover this year in an attempt to kick-start flagging
sales. The restyled Charger will get exterior changes
that aim to give it a more "aggressive" appearance,
although initial spy shots hint at much fussiness, while
under-the-skin there will be new engines and suspension
improvements.
The restyled Charger
Pursuit's police-duty specification includes suspension
tuning, heavy-duty anti-lock vented-disc brakes (ABS),
front- and rear-stabiliser bars, 18-inch performance
tyres on steel wheels and two-mode police-specific
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) calibration. To -
hopefully - improve the Charger's much derided ride and
performance handling dynamics, the rear-wheel drive
design features redesigned front and rear multi-link
suspension geometries to deliver a comfortable ride for
law enforcement officers patrolling the streets.
Designed with the guidance of the brand’s Police
Advisory Board, the Charger Pursuit’s mobile-command
interior features a Police Interface Module for easy
equipment integration, police-duty front seats,
column-mounted automatic transmission with Auto Stick,
red/white LED interior lighting for night-vision
equipment and more. Its safety and security equipment
includes standard multistage driver and front-passenger
air bags, seat-mounted side-thorax air bags,
supplemental side-curtain air bags for front and rear
outboard passengers, driver’s knee bag, tyre-pressure
monitoring and more. The Charger Pursuit, along with the
facelifted production models, will also offer the new
standard E-85 capable 3.6-liter "Pentastar" V6 engine
with variable-valve timing (VVT) as well as the
traditional 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with fuel-saving
Multi-displacement System (MDS).
