The
UK’s Top Gear magazine has chosen the “uniquely
Italian, seductive” Maserati GranCabrio as its Cabrio
of the Year in its just-announced annual Car of
						the Year awards.
						In
judging the four seat soft Maserati as the best of the
year, Top Gear UK said “Refined grand tourer this may
be, but the GranCabrio is still a Maserati: uniquely
Italian, seductive and familiar” having already placed
the GranCabrio in its sub-zero cool category with the
typically Top Gear comment that the Maserati is a
“gorgeous Italian drop top that makes us twitch with
						inappropriate delight.”
						The
Maserati GranCabrio is the latest Maserati to earn the
praise of Top Gear magazine. Of the Quattroporte
the magazine says “It looks delicious, sounds operatic
and drives superbly”, while the GranTurismo is summed up
as “immaculately-styled bodywork and an absolutely
fabulous GT. Seating for four, an inspirational interior
and relaxed handling balance make this a bargain.”
Meanwhile, writing of the transformation of the
GranTurismo into the GranTurismo S, Top Gear Magazine UK
simply says “It makes the S into one of the best cars on
sale today, bar none. And with the ‘Sport’ button
						pressed, one of the loudest.”
						Meanwhile Citroën's new
DS3 won the overall Top Gear Car of the Year
award and Koenigsegg's Agera won the Hypercar of the
Year honour. Other winners included the Bentley
Continental GT (Grand Tourer of the Year), VW Golf R
(Hot Hatch of the Year), BMW 320d Touring (Family Car of
the Year) and Peugeot RCZ (Coupé of the Year) while Fiat
Powertrain's Multiair scooped the Engine of the Year
						category.
