On the occasion of World Environment Day, which
was officially celebrated on Saturday, Iveco has renewed its Iveco-O2
campaign, now in its second year, with the aim of raising awareness of
eco-sustainability among its workforce. At the same time, another initiative
combines respect for the environment, such as efficiency
and productivity, contributing to a sustainable
mobility, as Iveco now offers trucking professionals a
driving course specifically focused on economy driving.
The intention is to transfer its know-how to the
customer to make driving a Stralis more efficient,
economic and ecological.
Iveco-O2
The
initiative will bring about a small change in
temperature of the liquid refrigerant used in Iveco’s
office air conditioning systems throughout Europe. A
small sacrifice will be made by employees in working in
ambient temperatures 1°C higher throughout the summer,
yet still remaining at optimum levels for health and
comfort.
The
implementation of this simple eco-sustainable behaviour
actually has a great impact on the environment:
according to an estimate carried out on 14 sites, the
initiative will result in energy savings that will
prevent the emission of 423 tonnes of CO2 into the
atmosphere. The Iveco-O2 campaign also provides
employees with a handbook, distributed through the
corporate portal, that indicates every-day conduct and
hints designed to avoid waste in the offices,
demonstrating the active and responsible involvement of
people working for Iveco.
Iveco Driver Training:
Driving for Economy by Iveco
Having always been particularly attentive to the growing
need for products and services combining respect for the
environment, such as efficiency and productivity,
contributing to a sustainable mobility, Iveco now offers
trucking professionals a driving course specifically
focused on economy driving. The intention is to transfer
its know-how to the customer to make driving a Stralis
more efficient, economic and ecological.
The courses, called "Iveco Driver Training", intended
for all those drivers who wish to deepen their knowledge
about using Iveco Stralis and optimize their driving
style. The training sessions are held mainly in the
Iveco headquarters in Turin, but can also be provided at
the local Iveco dealer or directly at the driver’s
company facility. Each course includes a theoretical and
a practical component, but certainly the strong point of
the course is the highly professional and specialised
staff dedicated to training. Trainers, in fact, come
exclusively from the company, considered a fundamental
choice by Iveco, along with specialised Demo Drivers,
are able to impart to trainees, their wealth of
experience in order to optimise the use of devices on
board and to get the very best from their Stralis. The
aim of this course is to improve the ability of each
driver in the overall management of the vehicle and
reduce fuel consumption while increasing road safety and
the environment.
The course in detail, comprises the following: Product
characteristics; Regulatory aspects and technological
evolution, correct use of on-board devices, economic
driving techniques, active and passive safety, and
economical and safe driving tips.
The activity of training in economical driving, which
includes the involvement of drivers, both Italian and
foreign, and will gradually extend throughout Europe, is
another piece of that particular policy attention to the
environment and customer needs. Iveco has set itself the
ambitious goal to train its customers in order that they
are able to drive their vehicles, so as to reduce
operating costs and at the same time making Europe’s
roadways safer and greener. Given that the consumption
of fuel amounts, on average, to around 30% of the total
overhead costs of a transport company, and that driving
style can affect fuel economy by up to 12%, the
investment in training has a potential immediate return
and makes a further important contribution in an
extremely positive way towards the essential goal called
sustainable mobility.
Iveco:
360° commitment to
environmental protection
The company's commitment
to environmental protection is expressed at all levels
in the life cycle of its products from the selection of
raw materials to production methods, the characteristics
and performance of vehicles and their recyclability at
the end of their useful lives. Satisfying the growing
need for mobility, ensuring at the same time a reducing
environmental and social impact of its vehicles
represents for Iveco a binding choice. Witness the full
range of products with low environmental impact, aimed
at reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Moreover, Iveco introduced vehicles compliant with Euro
V exhaust emission four year ahead of the mandatory
introduction date of October 2009
Today Iveco is already
working on solutions that will be required for Euro VI,
with the aim, once again, of making compliant products
available in advance of the mandatory introduction date
for the benefit of the environment and customers. In
particular, Iveco has homologated EEV (Enhanced
Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) Diesel engines, a step
beyond the minimum legal requirements, for each range of
vehicles and is by far the European leader in the field
of vehicles powered by natural gas with exhaust
emissions already at the levels required by future Euro
VI regulations, entering in force in 2014.
In addition, Iveco boasts
long experience in hybrid traction systems that offer
reduced noise and improve ease of driving compared to
traditional Diesel engined vehicles, with significant
savings in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. They can
also allow a certain emission free radius of operation
for use in protected urban areas. In 2008, Iveco
initiated a vast customer acceptance programme involving
a number of light range Daily and medium range Eurocargo
parallel hybrid vehicles with important international
customers. Specifically for urban duties, Iveco offers a
range of Daily Electric vans and minibuses providing
emission-free and reduced noise driving with a useable
range up to 120 km.
