Announced last
summer, the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster, which, just like
its coupé sister, will have production limited to five
units, has made its Geneva Motor Show debut this week at the
80th edition where it is being shown on the Modenese
supercar maker's stand alongside the special one-off Zonda
Tricolore.
Pagani has a
tradition of creating Roadster models off the coupé base,
and this time it is the Zonda Cinque supercar that provides
the theme and just like the fixed-roof version it again
makes widespread use of weight saving materials and will be
limited to just 5 units. Launched in June 2008 the Zonda
Cinque project was in fact born out of a request from
Pagani's Hong Kong dealer and its five unit run was sold
before the car was even seen in public for the first time.
With the
Mercedes-Benz AMG V12-powered 2-seat Zonda supercar now a
decade old, this unique and very niche version will help to
keep demand up right until its anticipated successor arrives
on the market. "The Pagani roadcar model range would not be
complete without a Roadster version of the Zonda Cinque,"
said Automobili Pagani in the press release that announced
the the Zonda Cinque Roadster last summer. "As the name
implies it is created in the Modenese Atelier in a limited
production run of merely five exclusive pieces like its
coupé sister," the statement added.
All the weight
reduction measures adopted by Pagani to improve "driving
pleasure, performance and emissions" of the Zonda Cinque
have found use in the Cinque Roadster as well, which has the
same specifications as its closed-roof sister although the
carbon-titanium chassis has required redesigning to
compensate for the missing roof. The car's suspension is
made out of titanium and magnesium. The new model weighs in
at 1,210 kg, hits 100 km/h from standstill in 3.4 seconds
and gets to 200 km/h from rest in just 9.6 seconds. It will
also go from 100 km/h to standstill in 2.1 seconds and 200
km/h to a stop in 4.3 seconds.
"The Cinque
experience is enhanced with the roof stored in the front
bonnet, when the storm of air being fed to the 678hp
Mercedes AMG V12 engine through the massive intake just
inches over the passengers’ ears, accompanies the exhaust
note of the bespoke Zonda Cinque inconel and titanium
exhaust system," claims Pagani. "Whether you opt for a
relaxed country drive in Tuscany’s hills, visiting Florence
and other centres of the Italian Renaissance, or a record
hunt at the Nürburgring, this 1.3 million euro plus taxes
jewel will reward with every day driveability and ultimate
performance thanks to the different drive modes of the
sequential robostised gearbox and an adjustable suspension
setup that feels at home as well at the racetrack as on
bumpy roads. The constant efforts of Horacio Pagani and his
team shows once again how art and engineering can be
combined in the Zonda Cinque Roadster," added Pagani.
