Alfa Romeo will arrive in
Paris with a new, detuned, low-emission 140 CV version
of the 2.0-litre JTDm engine fitted to the Giulietta,
while the C-segment hatchback will also receive the new
"TCT" transmission that already features on the MiTo on
the 170 CV 1.4 MultAir version. The fading Alfa 159
sedan and Sportwagon will get a boost from the launch of
the long-awaited new 2.0-litre JTDm turbodiesel engine.
Alfa Giulietta
The already extensive range of engines available for the
Giulietta is now complemented by the launch of a new 140
CV turbodiesel that records low emissions (only 119
g/km), low fuel consumption (4.5 litres/100 km over a
combined cycle) and an outstanding torque delivery (in
Dynamic 350 Nm at just 1750 rpm). A versatile engine
well-suited to the needs of fleets and private users.
The second new product is a dry twin clutch automatic
transmission which guarantees driving comfort and a
sporty feeling well above those offered by conventional
automatic transmissions, but also improved efficiency
and lower consumption levels. The Alfa TCT will be
combined with a petrol version (170 CV 1.4 MultiAir
present on the stand) and later also with a diesel
version (170 CV 2.0 JTDM). In addition the brand-new
Alfa TCT, first applied to the Alfa MiTo, is combined
with the Start&Stop system in order to minimise
consumption levels and CO2 emissions (121 g/km for the
170 CV 1.4 MultiAir).
Two other versions of the Giulietta will be lined up on
the stand at the Paris Show: a 105 CV Distinctive 1.6
JTDM and a Quadrifoglio Verde with a 235 CV 1750 TBi
engine. The 105 HP 1.6 JTDM is a flexible and
eco-friendly diesel engine that offers prompt response
(in Dynamic mode, the max. torque is 320 Nm at just 1750
rpm) combined with extremely low fuel consumption (in
the extra-urban cycle, it is just 3.7 l/100 km). This is
possible thanks to the combination of MultiJet 2
technology and the Start&Stop system.
Separate mention must be made of the high performance
235 CV 1750 TBi combined with the Quadrifoglio Verde
trim level. Only available on this engine type, this
special version is distinguished by its sporty lowered
ride height (15 mm lower at the front and 10 mm at the
rear), 17" wheels (18" as an option), an enhanced
braking system with calipers painted Alfa red, as well
as unique interiors which include sporty leather and
microfibre upholstery. All designed to guarantee the
best in driving pleasure and segment-leading active and
passive safety. Fuel consumption is also low considering
the power level of this engine. The Quadrifoglio Verde
is thus reinterpreted with a modern touch, combining the
utmost driving pleasure with greater environmental
awareness for an eco-conscious and
environmentally-friendly sportiness.
In detail, the 1750 turbo petrol engine boasts advanced
technical solutions including direct fuel injection,
dual continuous variable valve timing, a turbocharger
and a revolutionary scavenging control system that gets
rid of any turbo lag. The resulting performance is
comparable to – or better than – that of many 3 litre
engines while still delivering fuel consumption typical
of a compact four cylinder unit. It is worth noting that
the specific power of 134 HP/litre represents the
highest ever achieved by an Alfa Romeo production
engine. The specific torque, amounting to 195 Nm/litre,
is also the highest of all petrol engines in this
category, while the maximum torque of 340 Nm, reached at
just 1900 rpm, is excellent by any standards.
Visitors to the stand can
also see a Giulietta equipped with Blue&Me-TomTom, the
only fully integrated portable info-entertainment system
that, in addition to map navigation, can be used by
means of an up-to-date colour touch screen plus steering
wheel and voice commands to manage the telephone,
navigation and all information needed while driving,
enhancing and exploiting Blue&Me features and ensuring
maximum driving safety.
Alfa MiTo
The spotlights will also be focused on the Alfa Romeo
MiTo, which will be represented at the Paris Motor Show
by two cars with a Distinctive trim level. The first
vehicle is equipped with a 135 CV 1.4 MultiAir turbo
petrol combined with an Alfa TCT automatic transmission
with dry twin clutch and the Start&Stop system that
temporarily turns off the engine during stops. This Alfa
Romeo MiTo offers outstanding performance (7.1 l/100 km
over an urban cycle, 126 g/km of CO2 and 8.2 seconds to
accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h), a result that is even
better than the same engine with a manual gearbox (the
values are 7.4 l/100 km, 129 g/km and 8.4 seconds). It
should be emphasised that the MiTo was the first car to
offer the revolutionary MultiAir engine and also to
combine the 135 CV 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol with the
Alfa TCT transmission and Start&Stop system.
The second Alfa Romeo MiTo on the stand is equipped with
a 95 CV 1.3 MultiJet engine in the ECO version. This may
be distinguished from the same engine in the range by
its optimised fuel consumption, achieved by special
engine tuning and gear ratios. This gives rise to a
reduction in fuel consumption (from 4.3 to 4.0 l/100 km
over a combined cycle) and CO2 emissions (from 112 to
104 g/km). The performance levels are unchanged: 180
km/h top speed and 11.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to
100 km/h.
Both cars on show offer leather upholstery, the Premium
Pack (steering wheel controls, front armrest with
compartment, dual zone automatic climate control,
parking sensors and Cruise Control) and the Sport Pack
(spoiler, sport rear bumper, fog lights, sports
instrument panel and 18" wheels for the 135 CV 1.4
MultiAir and 17" wheels for the 95 CV 1.3 MultiJet ECO).
The info-telematic equipment on board the two MiTo cars
is different: the 1.4 MultiAir version is equipped with
the Blue&Me system and RadioNav satellite navigation
system that constitutes the new generation of
entertainment and satellite navigation developed by
Magneti Marelli for Alfa Romeo. The system incorporates
a satellite navigation system, radio with dual tuner,
one dedicated to traffic information reception (TMC),
the CD MP3 player and European maps loaded onto a SD
card that speeds up data access and route calculation
times. To guarantee the greater sharpness and definition
of images, it is equipped with a high-definition 6.5
inch colour display. Visitors to the motor show can
admire on the second MiTo on show the Blue&Me–TomTom,
the latest development of the Blue&Me system. This is a
fully integrated system that allows you to manage
telephone, navigation and all necessary driving
information functions on a practical colour
touch-screen. The device is the result of a partnership
between Fiat Group Automobiles and TomTom, the European
leader in portable navigation systems, and integrates
with the car’s other systems by means of the Blue&Me
system.
Alfa Romeo 159
The stand also features an Alfa Romeo 159 Model Year
2011. The model (saloon and Sportwagon) underwent a very
mild faceliftof its interior styling in May and has been
enhanced by option packages that ensure customers a wide
range of personalisation alternatives and content.
Visitors can see a Sportwagon in "Rosso Competizione"
livery and equipped with the new 136 CV 2.0 JTDM engine
(Euro 5). This new engine complements the Euro 5 diesel
range for the 159 and will be positioned in the most
important diesel power band within segment D in Europe.
This power unit is in fact able to achieve a compromise
between the needs of private customers who seek a lively
yet frugal car and those of fleet customers who are
concerned with running costs but do not wish to neglect
comfort and driving flexibility over long distances.
The car on show is equipped with a TI Pack that adds a
sporty flavour with its list of features. In detail, the
TI Pack customises the Alfa Romeo 159 exteriors with 18"
"turbine" design alloy wheels (a 19" spoked design is
available as an option, as on the car exhibited), low
sports ride, side skirts and oversized red brake
calipers. A very lively car, therefore, with exceptional
roadholding. Inside, the TI environment is recognisable
from the wraparound seats trimmed in black leather and
Alcantara with red profiles (as an option, the sports
seats may be fully trimmed in black or natural leather),
sports pedal unit in aluminium and a kick plate with the
TI logo, sports steering wheel in leather with radio
controls, gear lever knob and handbrake lever trimmed in
leather with red stitching, Blue&Me system and sports
instruments. For an innovative, hi-tech look, the car on
show also features new carbon fibre inserts (an option)
on the central console and steering wheel.
