It was a very positive penultimate day of testing in Jerez for Scuderia Ferrari, working, like the other ten F1 teams, at the third pre-season test session and with the start of the F1 World Championship now in sight.

After two days of bad weather, yesterday saw the conditions improving, apart from a couple of hours in the morning, when there were still some wet sectors on the track. Eventually the cars could be fitted with tyres for a dry track, with the tarmac temperature finally on acceptable levels.

Fernando Alonso started his fourth day of testing with his new team just after 9am, taking over from Felipe Massa who had driven during the first two days of the test, and the Spaniard stopped driving around 20 minutes before the official end of the training session. During the day he drove 132 laps and got a good impression of the car.

"I’m satisfied because we could drive many miles on the dry," Alonso commented after the day's running was completed. "The results are positive, because we got to know the new car better. Also my place in the team is improving from day to day, as is my feeling for the F10. We can confirm that step by step we’re arriving at 100 percent."

Alonso drove the day’s second fastest lap, in a time of 1.21.115, while the fastest man on the track was Red Bull’s Mark Webber, the only driver to post a time below 1.20 (1.19.299). The Spaniard will be back on the track today, hopefully with more sun. The weather forecast is pretty good: sun throughout the day with possible showers in the evening.

Friday lap times from Jerez:

1. Webber 1.19.299 (115 laps)
2. Alonso 1.20.115 (132)
3. Button 1.20.394 (101)
4. Hulkenberg 1.21.432 (138)
5. Schumacher 1.21.437 (79)
6. Kubica 1.21.916 (100)
7. Sutil 1.21.939 (69)
8. Kobayashi 1.22.228 (28)
9. Alguersuari 1.22.564 (120)
10. Di Grassi 1.23.504 (34)
11. Kovalainen 1.23.521 (68)

Test Details: Circuit: Circuito Permanente de Velocidad, Jerez de la Frontera – 4.428 km; Driver: Fernando Alonso; Car: Ferrari F10; Weather: air temperature 9/16 °C, track temperature 9/25 °C, slightly cloudy, track still damp in the morning, but always dry from then on.
