The start of
the test session this morning was slightly postponed,
due to thick fog at the Catalan circuit at Montmelò. It
was Valentino Rossi’s second day of testing in Spain
behind the wheel of an F2008. No fear for Maranello’s F1
Clienti department’s technical staff, who are well used
to the fog at the home of the Prancing Horse.
The MotoGP World
Champion who lives in Tavullia, Italy, arrived in Barcelona on
Tuesday evening on the occasion of the two-day special test organised by Ferrari on board an F2008 single-seater.
Today saw the motorbike star concluding his latest experience behind the wheel of a
Formula 1 car, his sixth test since his debut at Fiorano in
2004. There were great expectations and plenty of confidence
in the test session after yesterday’s good results, while
Rossi was accompanied by his friends as well as numerous of
his fans in the
grandstand.
After a short
lunch break Rossi went back onto the track in the F2008.
After the thick fog had lifted, the sun came out, drying the
track and enabling the technicians from Maranello to fit the
car with slicks, which lead to a remarkable improvement of
lap times and performance.
An extraordinary
consultant for Rossi today came in the shape of Felipe
Massa, who arrived in Barcelona in order to undertake a test
session himself tomorrow on the Spanish race track. The Brazilian
driver will sit behind the wheel of the F2008 single-seater
which was used by Rossi today and yesterday and which was brought to the track by Maranello’s F1 Clienti department, to gain
more confidence with a Formula 1 car after his long enforced break, due to his accident
during the qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix last
summer.
