Novitec Rosso is set for a busy 81st Geneva Motor Show this week, and as well as upgraded versions of the California and 599 GTO that it has already announced, the German tuner will also show off a third Ferrari-based model, its reinterpretation of the 458 Italia.

The Novitec Rosso program includes engine tuning that increases power output to a claimed 609 hp (448 kW), propelling the two-seater car to a new claimed top speed that is in excess of 330 km/h. The new exhaust system, made from the same Inconel material that is also used in Formula 1 racing, optimises both power yield and exhaust note says Novitec Rosso, while weighing in at 21 kilograms less than the production exhaust.

Novitec Rosso claims to add an additional 39 hp (28.7 kW) of power from the 4.5-litre V8 engine. A new carbon-fiber airbox with modified air routing is installed on the intake side. The new exhaust system, says Novitec Rosso, was developed to improve exhaust-gas flow. The exhaust system consists of two manifolds, sport catalysts and a rear muffler with a control flap, while the sound can be adjusted by the Manettino button on the steering wheel. The exhaust system features three tailpipes with a diameter of 90 millimetres and optimises power yield while producing a more sporty exhaust note. It is manufactured from Inconel, the same material used on Formula 1 cars, making the exhaust especially heat resistant, and more importantly, extremely light: Compared to the production exhaust it represents a weight saving of 21 kilograms.

The engine conversion also includes reprogrammed engine electronics with recalibrated mapping for the ignition and injection. After the conversion the engine of the 458 Italia produces a claimed 609 hp (448 kW) at 9,100 rpm. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 540 Nm to 569 Nm at 5,400 rpm. The engine also responds even faster to throttle commands and the slightly higher redline speed results in even better continuity during upshifts.

Powered by this engine the two-seater after the tuning programme reaches a top speed in excess of 330 km/h. At these speeds favorable aerodynamic properties are also essential and Novitec Rosso says the new body kit parts were fine-tuned in the the University of Stuttgart's wind tunnel. The components are made from especially light, high-strength carbon fibre and give the car a more 'racing' look while reducing its weight. The new front lip spoiler is attached to the production bumper and hopes to lend the car slightly a more striking face. In combination with the curved flap section to the right and left of the central air inlet its shape seeks to minimise lift on the front axle, which benefits directional stability at high speeds. The wing air vents are now remade from carbon fibre and aim to add further sporty emphasis to the front end zone of the car. Carbon-fibre door mirror housings are another touch.

Meanwhile new side skirts, which the tuner says have been designed to optimise airflow between the front and rear wheels, feature down the flanks. To reduce lift on the rear axle Novitec Rosso upgrades the 458 Italia with a new rear spoiler and a carbon-fibre diffuser. The racing look is rounded out with additional carbon-fibre applications such as air vents and the fog lamp surrounds. The roof section of the car and the engine hood are also made from carbon fibre.

Custom-tailored versions of Novitec Rosso's three-piece NF3 wheels were developed to make full use of the available space in the wheel wells. Choosing a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 wheels in front and size 12Jx22 on the rear axle further emphasises the wedge shape of the two-seater car. Technology partner Pirelli supplies PZero high-performance tyres custom-tailored for the revised sports car. On the front axle the tyres are mounted in size 255/30 ZR 21 while at the rear the tyres are in size 335/25 ZR 22.

Novitec Rosso also fits new sport springs that have been matched to these low-profile tyres. The springs lower the ride height of the Ferrari by some 35 millimeters. At the same time the company has developed a particular feature that further improves the everyday utility of the 458 Italia. The hydraulic front lift system can raise the front of the car at the push of a button in the cockpit by some 40 millimeters, eliminating problems posed by speed bumps or parking garage ramps. At a second push of the button, or automatically upon reaching a speed of 80 km/h, the front reverts to its original position. The exterior racing theme of the body kit is continued in the interior with a center console, scuff plates and longer shift paddles on the steering wheel, which are all remade from carbon fibre.
